Whats the Easter Bunny brewing today?

Getting ready for some warmer weather with a Weizen. Nothin' fancy, 2 jars of Briess LME, some german hops, and some Wyeast 3333.

How to do small test batches?

Great timing, I have been thinking about doing this as well. I am mostly concerned with experimenting with hops and yeast, I can get a good idea of malt character from chewing a few grains. My concern right now is boiloff rate for a different pot. I know what it is for my normal setup, but...

Can i save my flat beer?

80g is just over half of what is frequently used for carbonation in bottles when using corn sugar on a 5 gal batch. There are styles that use more, or less, but 5 oz (140 g) is so common, it is sold in that volume. According to the calculator, 5oz is too much for many styles. Your 80 grams...

Can i save my flat beer?

Revvy has posted on several threads about this, and I believe the information is accurate. Yeast + sugar + time in bottle = carbonation. The 4th variable is temp. You know you have yeast, you already added that, you know you added sugar (how much could be your issue). You have it in bottles...

Mouthfeel – Confused – What the heck is going on?

Good point, I missed that tidbit.

Mouthfeel – Confused – What the heck is going on?

I think you are mistaken. I have always equated mouthfeel and more fermentables with HIGHER mash temps. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/mashing-temps-fuller-mouthfeel-342034/ There is also a guy on youtube who gives a good description of enzyme activity and the effects of different mash...

What brewing app do you use?

I found the phone is not the best device for brewing software. Limited real estate on the screen and LOTS of recipe data make for lots of clicking, selection menus with long lists, and a generally difficult experience. I much prefer using my ipad with iBrewmaster, it is relatively intuitive...

    gonna go with mm2

I chose it over the barley crusher and crankenstein based on the comments about customer service, and more importantly, I have not seen a single bad review of the product. It is adjustable as well. Based on my expected useage, I did not see a need for extra large rollers, or a third roller...

A cheap wort cooling pump !

2-3 bags of ice and a 3/4 full cooler (48qt), chill 5 gallons in about 15 minutes. I recirculate it with a pond pump I found at harbor freight for <$20. http://www.harborfreight.com/264-gph-submersible-fountain-pump-68395.html

just dropped a wad of cash to go all grain

I add the full amount of strike water, at about 5 degrees more than required for dough-in, let it settle to strike temp, and add grains. Works pretty well. Your setup may need more or less than 5 degrees...

just dropped a wad of cash to go all grain

I recently made the jump to AG brewing, there is a sticky in this forum that is very helpful. One of the most hepful suggestions was:

mash temperature and time effects on final gravity.

Somewhere on HBT, I once saw a link to this, it explains it in pretty good detail.

Help with making the next step on my mash technique

I just ordered one of these, and plan to get a submersible petn probe for it so I can leave it in the mash tun (70 qt extreme cooler) and monitor long term temp losses without opening the lid. With a second probe I will be able to monitor shallow/deep, each end, whatever I want. It can also be...

How dumb are your state/province's liquor laws?

Yeah, MA was a shock for me when I moved there from Louisiana... More than once I ended up driving to RI or NH because I had not planned properly. We even had trouble getting served in restaurants and taverns, they claim they can't verify the validity of any id except a MA drivers license...

    Stupid wort chiller....

I may be different, or just lucky, but I bought my first hydrometer back in '92 or so, and have never had a problem with it. I have actually dropped it a couple times, albeit not far. My worry about dropping it is about the paper scale inside shifting and making it inaccurate. Most times it's...
