AHA - Big Brew Recipe Modification

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I also have two 5 gallons shares of this recipe fermenting away. I'd like to do something with 5 gallons to make it a little different. Was thinking about a dry hop but i don't really have any of the kettle hops and I'd hate to just throw something random in...

Question about Turbid Mash: Couldn't you just use direct heat?

Question about Turbid Mash: Couldn't you just use direct heat?

I've been reading up on turbid mashes for lambics and other belgian brews. Instead using water additions to hit all of the steps after pulling off some starchy wort and heating it, couldn't you just do a Brew in a bag kind of thing and directly apply heat to raise the temps. It seems that...

    Split Batch Plan. Thoughts??

I'm thinking of doing a large batch of a saison. Probably 8 gallons after boil. 5 gallons of that would get a large starter of Dupont strain (wyeast) The other 3 gallons would go into a carboy along with 1.5 Gallons from a sour mash that I'll have had in process. Pitch some T-58. As...

Rack to Secondary Before adding Brett?

Planning a Dark Saison. I'd planned on adding Brett C in the secondary. However, I may not have the spare carboy to rack it into. Is it a viable option to just pitch the brett into the same fermenter after a couple of weeks in primary. Anyone else done it that way. I think I've read...

    Brews for my Graduation Party

Thanks for the Tips, I think I'll be doing the Centenial Blonde. The thread on that one is huge!!! Looks like something that'll be a hit. I think the other beer will be a hopbursted APA. I'll probably go with just those two. (15 gallons is probably overkill. And I don't want to be left...

    Brews for my Graduation Party

Graduating in June (hopefully). Gonna have a party, So I'd like this to be my first homebrew fueled party. I should have 3 kegs available and I've also got tons of bottles. So maybe I'll do more than 3 beers. Probably looking at a mix of friends and family, some into craftish beer, some...

    Barleywine FG 1.028 from 1.100

Just racked to secondary after a month in the primary. Yeast was us-05 cake washed and pitched at the appropriate rate according to Mr. Malty. The sample tasted good. Not sweet or syrupy. The style guidelines show 1.03 as the max FG. But I thought I'd attenuate a little better. Not...

Thermal Conductivity of Wort or some other similar 1.060 sugar solution?

I'm doing a wort chiller project and calculations are stalled out due to an inability to find something I can use for thermal conductivity of the unfermented wort. Anybody have a guess? I've done lots of internet searching but no luck thus far. Thanks.

If I brew a Maibock this weekend will it be ready by first week of March?

Deadline for this beer would be for a bock competition. Do I have enough time or did I procrastinate too much. Wait if it's a bock I guess I'll call it PROCRASTINATOR. Also this would be my first lager... Thanks.

Please take a minutes to take my wort chiller survey

Good catch. I realized this the other day. Anyone who fills this out from here on can disregard efficiency as it won't be included in the final results survey. In my head I'd pictured something involving water usage and cooling speed. But that doesn't really equate to an efficiency. Like...
