    Super notty!

So 6ish weeks ago I made some Caribou slobber with stuff I bought from my LBBS, used some notty ale yeast. Simply rehydrated the packet, and pitched, nothing to fancy. 45 mins later I had to rip off the air lock and put a blow off tube on, it was going crazy. I had never seen yeast get to it...

    Bottling In Soda Bottles

I use 1L plastic beer bottles, got them from my LHBS. Brown color like a glass bottle to prevent skunking, holds a liter of brew, nice easy screw on caps. Best part, is they're only 8$ a dozen, and last forever.

    IPA=blah

I don't much care for what I've tried of IPAs so far. I've only tried a couple, but they seemed very skunked to me. But then, I generally prefer things like Porters, brown ales & scottish ales. So my pallete might just lean more towards those styles.

Beer kits that say to leave in fermenter for only one week - WHY?

Bugger that 1 week foolishness. I bottled an APA in 10 days once, worst mistake ever. 1/2 of yeast on the bottom of the bottles. Cloudy as all hell, tasted fine after a month and a half in the bottles, but was over carbed a bit. Current APA, left for 5 weeks in primary, 4 weeks in bottles...

    Poor head retention

Throw some heading compound into the boil. About a gram per gallon. You'll have a giant, thick, creamy, attractive head that lasts a good 15-20 mins.

    Carbonating in wine bottles?

So I'm going to be bottling a batch of apfelwien tomorrow, this will be my first time bottling anything but beer, and def my first time using anything other then my beer bottles. So I had some friends save me a crap ton of their wine bottles, got a bag of corks etc etc, but then it dawned on...

Hard Lemonade from fresh lemons?? (dont know where else to post this!!)

That Skeeter Pee looks amazing. I'm bottling up some apfelwien tomorrow, and think I might have to use that carboy to try a batch of that.

Do your under age kids drink w/you at home?

I'd vote in support of that. Don't know a single friend growing up who was injured by booze, been to more then one funeral for friends lost to car accidents.

    BJCP hard on overcarbonated beers?

As I understand it, brewing true to style is the main point in BJCP comps. No matter how 'good' a beer might be, they want it to match style criteria.

"Guilty" confessions of a beer enthusiast

So we're in agreement then, you're an *******. I'm glad we can finally see eye to eye on this. Random thought though. No one is hating on you for not using adjuncts, or even disliking their use. No one really cares about that. It's your attitude you presented earlier in the thread that everyone...

"Guilty" confessions of a beer enthusiast

I've never tried PBR, can't get it in Nova Scotia it seems. I looked all over the "Beers of the World' section of our liquer store right after that episode of South Park a few months back, and nothing. Oddly enough, 40oz bottles of Colt .45 were in the beers of the world section. And I mean...

"Guilty" confessions of a beer enthusiast

I enjoy only traditional German jerky, made with German purity law ingredients, from game animals I have personally shot with firearms I personally manufacture. Any other jerky is simply the food of plebs. Excuse me, I'm going to go drink wheat beer and muse on how much better then the rest of...

    Turkey Fryer Modification Question

Personally I find it kinda hard to move a kettle with 5-6 gallons of liquid in it. It isn't like a light breeze is gonna send it flying across the yard.

"Guilty" confessions of a beer enthusiast

I found a new..probly not guilty but none-the-less delicious flavor at Garrison Brewery in Halifax the other day, Spruce Beer. Beer brewed with needles, extracted essence and buds from a spruce tree. It's very good, very unique tasting. Very different from anything else I've ever drank. Picked...

    re using caps

I use plastic 1L beer bottles from my LHBS, with plastic caps. Infinitely reuseable, makes bottling day nice to, since I generally only have to fill/cap 20-22 bottles instead of 50 something.

"Guilty" confessions of a beer enthusiast

I mostly pity the people that have to interact with him in the real world. I also tend to pity people that get hung up on Reinheitsgebot. I mean, that law wasn't even put into place for the betterment of beer. It was largely enacted to ensure brewers wouldn't use up all the grain available...

    Apfelwein - the gateway brew

EC 1118 is a fairly bad yeast for apfelwine I've been told. Has a bit of a tendency to strip most of the apple flavor out of the brew. Coincidently, it's also what my LHBS tried to tell me to use on my first apfelwien batch. I have a feeling you say 'apfelwien' and anyone who doesn't know what...

"Guilty" confessions of a beer enthusiast

Wow weizen, and you're like, trying to have your own little micro brew with an attitude like yours? Or that's what I gather from your sig and profile. Can honestly say, I would never buy anything from someone with a piss poor attitude like yours. Wow man, just wow. People like you with your...
