Ill never stir my mash after i recir. and get the bed set. I still get 80% eff. and the wort is crystal clear hitting the kettle. You keep stirring, and you can forget about crystal clear wort w/o recir. again and again........
As far as clumps go, sounds like you need to dough in better. Get a...
Im the same as you bro..screw opinions, go and figure the daym thing out on your own!
I may be speaking w/you about your steam mash. Im currently in a 2.5 barrel brewery build and stuck on heat maintaining or stepping techniques. Steam injection is in the toolbox...
Oh, i dont think its...
Yea, the price of copper has skyrocketed. A guy could always us CPVC, tons cheaper. Nothing against a braid, but unless you get enuff of it to use the Tun geometry, your stuck batching. Theres no room for expansion etc. So the few extra bucks of copper for versatility is worth to me....
As...
To start off, the main thing is to find a technique your happy with. You like the results, then its a good one.....
Sparky, i can say Yes, i feel ive mastered both techniques or variations of both and pushed my brewing abilities and equipment to be able to say that. Im not saying im god or...
This thread cracks me up.......There are a few well informed posts here. But for the record, how many of you guys posting on this subject have mastered both techniques? And trying something once or twice isnt mastering. Id be interested in that. Because there are alot of uninformed generic...
This is true if you want to start a siphon with co2 when using gravity to rack with. But if your gonna rack on the same plane, 3-5psi maintained will be needed. I to agree that a carboy can handle 3-5 psi and the carboy cap will blow before the dreaded scenerio. Just be smart and take it easy...
I have to disagree with you that the Gott style design is an advantage for grainbed depth vs width. Its actually a disadvantage as the height makes the bed deeper vs equal to width. This is where the IceCubes design is superior. The grain bed depth vs width is more symetrical. This is more...
I prefer the red 60 qt wheeless version. It will hold 40#'s of grain if you fly sparge. The fitting isnt anything thats a big deal on it as the sidewall allows for a normal weldless bulkhead. I also prefer manifolds better than braids. Oh, you will need to go to igloo.com to find them.
On hot days, i run thru the Randal first, then thru a small jockey box IceCube 14, and have the faucet mounted to the box. The Randal is mounted on top of the box. Looks cool, works great for those times when the Randal isnt getting hit hard..
I think there are some misunderstandings here on infections and type of material to secondary in. As far as secondarying, plastic is frowned upon for allowing o2 to seep in over time. Thats the main reason.
It doesnt matter what type of material is used to ferment in, a infection can get ahold...
Sorry to hear about your bad luck, expecially on your maiden voyage. But i think you answered your own question. Run the reamer thru your female threads and you can clean up your male threads too. Relax, your hi end gear will be able to be saved. Keep us informed!
Classic example of a lacto infection. This usually is a result of sanitation. FYI, id get your beer cold as temp. can prolong the infection from growing until its not palletable any longer. Warmer temps will speed it up. It wont hurt you so dont worry about that. Also, if there was any grain...
