Yet another first AG day today!

OK, yet another question. How exactly would I figure my efficiency? I've tried reading up, but I'm getting more and more confused. And is it possible to get a good figure on my setup since I boiled over probably close to 1gallon?? I don't want to be lazy, but I thought I could post my data and...

Yet another first AG day today!

So regarding the higher OG, what should I do about this? Anything for now? How about next time?

Yet another first AG day today!

Heh, I wish my wife was that understanding. Luckily my neighbor was moving out, and I pulled the nightstands out of the trash about 20minutes before the brew! Score!! This hobby is forcing me to be a dumpster diver.....:drunk:

Yet another first AG day today!

Yeah, I couldn't believe the smell! Extract smell nasty, this was a much appreciated improvement. Also, I couldn't believe how good the hydrometer sample tasted! I've heard people saying that it tasted good, but I thought this was just serious beer-heads being a little crazy about their brew.

Yet another first AG day today!

I too had my AG Cherry popped today. It was gentle, just like EdWort promised. I did bleed a little though, kind of embarassing. Anyways, I also did EdWort's Haus Pale as my first, and man am I happy! I had a couple mishaps....cut my thumb on my thermometer case. Don't ask me how it happened...

    Let's talk global warming...

I don't think there is any real debate on the fact that we are making global warming worse. There is definitely debate on whether it is natural caused or what.....but why not help? What is helping lower the factors that pollute and disrupt the natural balance of the earth going to hurt? We can...

    Are you a lightweight?

I definitely feel you there. I think it has more to do with the kid, mine is 15months, than the age. I'm still young, 26, but my drinking days have gone down drastically since having my son. Probably more to do with the fact that I'm fairly drunk after 3 heavy beers tonight as well.

Careful when Decompressing an "Empty" Keg...

I second that. Definitely need to win some sort of linguist award for this one. Maybe I've had too much to drink tonight, but I almost shot Paulaner Hefe out my nose after reading that!

Is there a style you can say you do not like?

Definitely add me to the list of Barleywine haters. My best friend loves them, so I've been forced to "Try this one....it's great!!". Yet to find one I can finish even half a glass of.

    All Grain and 8 inches

Wow, Palmer. That's crazy. I grew up in Wasilla and Eagle River. Definitely don't miss those early snow days.

    Mash Paddle.....why?

Here's my new mash paddle. I ordered it through Sysco (I'm a Chef), but I'm sure you can get one at any restaurant supply store. It was $9. Time to break out the drill and saw, it needs some holes.

Brewing 22 gallons tomorrow, anyone else brewing?

I'm brewing my first AG batch tomorrow. Going to be EdWort's Haus Ale recipe....which seems to be a popular first.

5/8" Stainless Steel Washer for MLT

OK, sweet. I think I'll just get the flat washer then. I could always ghetto rig something if need be. I will brew my first AG batch tomorrow....whether I have to make a washer myself or not.

5/8" Stainless Steel Washer for MLT

OK, so with no luck finding a 5/8" stainless steel fender washer....I was wondering if using a different type of washer that was the same size and SS would work? Is the Fender part of the equation absolutely neccesary, or could I get away with a different type?

    Salt Lake City Club??

I'd definitely be down for a group brew! I have two propane burners, and now my big 10gal mash tun. I'd be willing to host, or travel! Let's set something up for a time that's convenient for everyone, as well as a time that beers will be drinkable!

    Ice Cream Freezer for Kegerator??

I have access to an unwanted Good Humor freezer. The kind with the glass sliding top. It'd be free, but would it be very possible to turn this into a kegerator? Anyone ever seen it done??

    Craigslist + Homebrewing = Awesome!

I'll second the craigslist comment. I picked up a bench bottle capper the other day for $10, and while I was there the guy gave me 3 cases of new bottles, a new hydrometer, and a 6gal carboy for free.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Oh, sorry but yet another question. They have several different types of 2row. The guy was telling me that Maris Otter was my best option, but what do you use? I'd like to stick as close to yours as possible.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Just an update, that yes, BeerNut does have the Nottinghams yeast.

    Salt Lake City Club??

Any of you fellow inmates of Utah know of a brewing club? I would really like to join something like this after seeing the talk about group brews and such. I think it would be extremely beneficial to actually watch someone, instead of just reading about it.
