New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I water purge and then fermentation purge...best of both worlds.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I've been using a magnet to hold my dip tube above the krausen until it settles...then I let it drop. Use the same magnet to ensure the dip tube doesn't pick up trub when racking to keg. Just need to finagle it a bit to ensure the ball (and therefore the ring which is what is actually...

Dextrose does dry out a beer as the yeast will convert nearly all of the simple sugars to alcohol. The reason the FG is so high is due to the yeast used and rest of the grain bill

Yeah I do... Not a bad idea but that much DME wort makes me cringe...though in reality I probably wouldn't notice it too much. However rest of the grain bill was too notch ingredients (w barke pils, GP, CM1) so I think I'll just ride out my small batch. Thanks for the suggestion though

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Yeah that's what my gut tells me...was fishing for a reason to go ahead and try it anyway. The thing that kills me is it will end up being 3.5 by the time I'm done dry hopping it

Random question for you hop heads I viewed a batch yesterday and had issues racking clean trub to the fermenter. I only got 4.5 out of an anticipated 6. I took the rest and poured off into a bucket to settle out.. unfortunately it got too cold and froze... So I defrosted and an letting it...

Pressurized transfers from Fermonster to corny keg

Discovered another good solution...a magnet! Once the dip tube gets to the point where it's about to suck trub, grab it with a magnet and hold it in place This also works well for keeping the dip tube out of the hop debris when dry hopping...I just "pin it" above the liquid line until I crash...

What constitutes a "good hot break"? I hear it mentioned all over the place but nobody clarifies exactly what differentiates a good one from a not so good one

So with the new year, what are some of your favorite low-ABV (<5%) hazy IPA recipes?

So what's with all the other posts then?!? [emoji6]

So what you're all saying is that I should invert my spunded lager kegs to get brilliant clarity?!

Been using Whirlfloc G we got in a group buy and it's been great. This wort is nearly 30% oats/wheat and there were 12oz of hops in the boil/Wap (10G batch) and yet after the whirlpool and 30 min of settling it's still crystal clear.

My bad, I misinterpreted what you said. I took you literally when you said you were doing the star san purge without the star San and thought you were just filling with CO2 and then purging. I also fermentation purge and while it is still technically less efficient (i.e uses more gas), in...

You want too displace some liquid otherwise purging is very inefficient

Good thoughts but yes I am using gravity to my advantage as much as possible and I am making sure The keg has nearly no pressure (enough to see the lid)

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Well yes I suppose if you're doing another transfer after spunding my two issues don't apply as you can drop the yeast and dry hop post fermentation however for me one of the major points of spunding is limiting oxygen to a minimum and opening the keg post fermentation and or transferring again...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

No leaks in this particular case...I can hear the leaks when there is one and the fermenter shows a steady 10 PSI

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Slightly off subject but since it's been discussed in this thread and the other thread is more or less dead, for those doing closed transfers with fermonsters modded to have floating dip tubes, are you not running into flow issues? I'm about ready to go back to a spigot as I've had too many...

    Bottle filler stand

Ended up making it out of PVC...works great and cost about $10

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Spunding is fantastic and I use it for most beers but it doesn't work for this style. A) hopping during fermentation does change and imo "muddy" the flavor B) once the yeast drops so does the majority of the flavor/aroma. Shaking the keg temporarily revives it but I personally don't care to...
