    That's a large port. If you don't reduce to 1/2", won't you collapse the grain bed? Instead of welding, couldn't you use a tri-clamp?

    I rub mine down with Grizzly Joe's Trail Dust and wrap in tin foil. Let it sit for at least 24 hous in the fridge. Heat up the grill to 500°F and toss it on the grill for 17 minutes each side.

    Keg to Keg transfer?

    Yes. I transfer my half empty 5-gallon cornys to 3-gallon cornys for parties and to have an empty 5-gallon corny to keg a new beer with. Transferring corny to corny also works great if you're planning to filter.
