Autumn Seasonal Beer Scary Balz Pumpkin Ale

I brewed this on the 6th. First time mashing anything. I'm a country girl at heart, so used 6# of sweet potato instead of pumpkin. Just took a hydro sample and this stuff is delicious!! Right now, the flavors are well-balanced, not overly sweet, spiced, or hoppy. I think it's done, but will...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Wild Blue Blueberry Lager. Absolutely offensive swill -- I didn't realize it was an AB product until dumping it, but that pretty much explains everything.

People that won't drink your beer...

Feeling the OPs pain. We're always catching flak from the family for "brewing so much beer" -- I'm talking an average of one 5 gal batch every two weeks!! I understand the ones that don't drink alcohol, but it irritates me when it's someone who boozes up on wine and/or cheap ass BMC. Grrrrrrr...

Who here has made a home brew with maple syrup? Advice? Lessons learned?

Interesting question. My noobish understanding was that you could add it at flameout like with honey, and that its contribution to flavor depended on which grade was used. Interestingly, my LHBS sent out a Maple Syrup Amber recipe this week. Going to be adventurous and give it a whirl. Can...

    Just finished bottling first batch

If you check You Tube there are some nice auto-siphon tutorials. For the first batch, I siphoned the initial, most aerated bit into a sampling glass, then the rest went into bottles. It seemed to work well, but we switched to the bottling bucket with a wand attached, as petey said, for "economy...

    How did you find us?

Like many found it on Google. I'm a daddy's girl, so DIY rocks. Thanks to you guys I put together our (very efficient I might say) wort chilling system!

    This sucks 1st time bottling

Actually, this is what the guy at our local shop told us to do. Guess you could probably put a seal on the wood to extend its useful lifetime. Then again, I'm too new to give qualified advice...that's just what we were told to try on a short-term basis.

    This sucks 1st time bottling

Would you rate ammonia as more efficient than oxyclean or plain dish soap? Have only used hot soap and water, but I do have a bottle of Pine Sol around. Guessing that you'd need to be careful with the ammonia/Pine Sol to not get it inside the bottle or have to sure to rinse well?

    This sucks 1st time bottling

Sam Adams have been great thus far, and I find Blue Moon and Well's Banana Bread labels to be effortless. I just fill the sink with liquid detergent and scalding hot water, let bottles soak for 5-15 minutes and peel. I remove the adhesive with one of those green kitchen scouring pads. The...
