I just tried my first DGA -- holy crap it's fantastisch! Wish I'd known this yesterday when we were at the brew store. Might be brewing this ASAP!!!!

Atlanta - Ball Lock Keg Bulk Buy

Did you ever start a thread on this? I'm in NoVA and could use a few more kegs if the price is right.

    growing hops in VA?

You do anything special, aside from the standard care? I decided against Willamette, because I'd heard it won't grow well here, but you're just down the road....

It's official starting my own brewing business!

Congrats - ditto the first two posters, lol. Good luck in your adventure!

    Rehabbing an old monster freezer

That blows. If you can't find the culprit I hope whatever died is long gone and it's just taking a while for the smell to go away. On the bright side, you scored a free freezer and the smell will go away...eventually.

    Rehabbing an old monster freezer

What kind of odor does it have (mold, chemicals, or something dead)? I'm by no means an expert, however, I would bleach bomb your freezer twice -- inside AND out -- if you haven't already, then leave it open until it's ready to go into service. You might also want to consider replacing the seal...

    Rehabbing an old monster freezer

Phase 1 is pretty much complete - I really screwed up on the handle and reattaching the plastic lid liner, so jury-rigged a solution until we have time to add the collar/taps. So it's not as nice as it would have been at this stage, but hey, it works. The exterior is 100% better, and I have yet...

    siphon horror story

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Hope you were able to save most of the batch and avoid introducing nasties. If nothing else, drink it quick and invest in a new siphon/longer tube.

    worst beer you ever made

Worst non-infected batch? Brewcraft's Dry Irish Stout extract kit. It was designed a pound light on fermentables...my notes are something like: Black water, artificial chocolate, and weak, old coffee about sums it up.

    Absurdly High Markup on Beer.

This is why I hate and don't eat/shop in DC. Beer and everything else, both there and in the suburbs, is well overpriced. You can thank all the people with two-income households earning six figures...each.

    What are you drinking now?

    Stone's Vertical Epic 11.11.11. I couldn't wait any longer - that's some mindaltering goodness.

    BIAB grain bag

I don't know how big a mega pot is, but I'll second the 5 gal paint strainer bags from (Lowes/Home Depot). You can get a 12# grist in, but the bag wears faster. If that's not large enough, try a home goods (or fabric store). The curtains idea is fabulous.

    MD/DC grain

I think I've got it all covered now, but def thanks for asking. Maybe next time around?

Don't tell non-brewers to bring beer to a party

Anything that results in the brewing of more beer is a good thing.

Don't tell non-brewers to bring beer to a party

Welcome to the internets. (You might have just penned my new signature...)

    MD/DC grain

Looks like this buy is already full - let me know if I miscounted...OR if someone wants to split a bag of MO, Vienna, or Munich with someone in VA.

How many gallons of Homebrew in 2012?

    Back in the saddle!!! 4503.5 +10 = 4513.5

Don't tell non-brewers to bring beer to a party

Do I smell trollbait? Seems like the OP meant to provoke some strong feeling without providing necessary details on how he dealt with the guests.
