    Efficiency with Corona Mill

Anybody know what the average efficiency is using a Corona mill on grains? It's definitely a cheaper alternative to the barley crusher, and a gateway to bulk grain purchases. Thanks.

Can O2 tank be filled with CO2?

Well, right now I live just outside Portland, ME in a town called Saco. But, that's only when I'm in school. Otherwise, you'll find me roaming the mean streets of Bangor, Maine. I appreciate the information, guys. I think I'll either try to trade up in the world, or just get a new valve.

Can O2 tank be filled with CO2?

That idea is solid as a rock. I'll definitely consider doing it. Aesthetically, this tank isn't that great looking...I was thinking about painting it if I was going to use it, but I'm sure, as long as the metal isn't compromised, the company would take it, refurbish it and sell it for some good...

Can O2 tank be filled with CO2?

I'm looking to piece together a kegging setup, and as I was rifling through my folks' garage, I found an O2 tank that was attached to some sort of torch. It's a good size, I'd guess 20 pounds, but I was wondering if these tanks are okay for CO2? I read in another post that the valves have to...

    Re: Good bars in NYC?

hey guys, i am going to be in midtown manhattan during the latter half of this week, which just happens to be my birthday. i was wondering if anyone knew of any good bars within the vicinity of the roosevelt hotel that would be worth spending some time at? preferably, i am looking for...

    Munton's Gold Yeast

I went to the LHBS and they were out of the Fermentis American Ale yeast. So, in a pinch, I grabbed the Muntons Gold Yeast. Does anyone have any experience with this yeast? Is it a pretty good, all-purpose ale yeast? I read the description on BYO and it said that it is made for 100%...

    Oily Residue

I used C-Brite for the initial santizing and then I used a non-rinse santizer from LD Carlson to fill the airlock. I think that it was either the sanitizer dripping into the wort or the oil residues of the krausen-ring.

    Oily Residue

Welp, I tasted it and the preliminary report is that it is the best beer I've brew to date. I feel like it's spot on for what I wanted. We'll have to see over the next week or so if that oily residue rears its ugly head in the form of a ****ty tasting brew -- but I don't anticipate it...

    Oily Residue

Just a quick question: I recently brewed a wit and I am looking to bottle it today. I have moved my carboy onto the kitchen counter to let the sediment settle before I rack it into my bottling bucket. But I noticed something that I have only noticed once before and it was on my...

    First Batch Brewed

I actually had the same thing happen to me on my first brew, but I panicked where you stayed relatively calm. Rather than trying to make the airlock air tight without the grommet, I reached into the wort (with a sanitized hand, of course) and retrieved the grommet. To my surprise, this didn't...

    Carboy Size

I recently brewed a 3 gallon batch of Pale Ale and after taking a hydrometer reading on consecutive days, it appears it is finished fermenting. My question is this: I only have one 3 gallon carboy, but would very much like to secondary this beer: what are my options? Would there be...

    Fermentation without airlock activity

Two things: 1) I recently had a the same thing happen to me and my beer turned out fine. 2) If you are using a bucket -- mine was an Ale Pail -- make sure you have a good solid seal. Unfortunately, my ale pail did not come equipped with the rubber gasket that many come with, and I'm...

    Champagne Bottles

I just bottled a batch of pale ale and I wanted to try using a Korbel bottle as a mass storage vessel, so to speak. However, I have noticed that the bottle is developing a head of foam inside the bottle -- and a pretty significant one at that. I was using a wing capper and regular caps...

Any tips on my first Hefe?

Are you doing this AG or extract? I've used the Safale Wheat Beer yeast and it was great. It's worth giving it a try. Don't go overboard on hops. I recommend Hallertau, Saaz or Cascade. Good luck.

    Is AG reaally worth it?

I wouldn't say it is impossible for me to go AG, but I think it would be irresponsible and ill-advised on a couple of levels. For one thing, I live in a pretty small apartment with really no room to set up the needed equipment. I would really enjoy trying some sort of mini/parial-mash, just...

    Is AG reaally worth it?

It seems to be like there is a certain elitism about brewing all-grain. I wouldn't really know what AG beer tastes like, but the extract brews I have been making over the last year-and-a-half have been spectacular. There is no doubt in my mind that brewing AG puts you in the driver seat, but I...

New Dry Hefeweizen Yeast is Gross

I, too, have used this new yeast, but my experiences have been good. I got a load of banana aroma and taste which subsided with time. I think it is a great yeast for anyone looking to brew a simple hefe.

First brew - didn't work out

Well, I am a little surprised at some of the responses to this thread, but I guess it's understandable. It's damn-sure a good thing there is a resource like this for new brewers. Luckily when I started--after a long time hearing about sugar and bleach and pet bottles and on and on--I...

What sanitising agent do you use.

I started out using bleach because it was handy and cheap, but its smelly and hard to know when its rinsed off. Now I use C-Brite and it seems to work pretty well. I have iodophor, but I am allergic to shellfish, so I don't go near the stuff, but when I get my kegs set-up, I'll have someone...

    does anyone bottle with growlers?

I've had really cruddy luck with those damn growlers. They seem great because if you get a couple of them together you can bottle-away a gallon of beer in no time; what I have found is that when you sanitize the caps for them, you have to be oh-so-careful. Make sure that the paper lining...
