    Is my gravity ok?

Great, thanks! I'll give that a try.

    Is my gravity ok?

It's fermenting at about 64-66. It won't go much higher than that - there's just not a place in our house that gets warmer. When you say swirl up the fermenter, should I just rock the bucket around, or should I actually stir it up?

    Is my gravity ok?

This is my first batch, an Irish Stout extract kit from Brewer's Best. My OG was a touch higher than recommended (1.055, their suggested top limit was 1.050). After six days I tested and the SG was 1.022. After six more days I tested again (last night), and the SG had only gone down to 1.020...

    Second batch

That is really helpful information, thank you! Since you didn't run away screaming that it was a terrible idea, I'm going to assume that maybe it will work. :) Anyway, a can of 100% apple/pom/blueberry concentrate is 6 servings at 29 grams of sugar per serving - so 174g of sugar for the...

    Second batch

My first batch (Irish Stout) is about a week away from bottling, so of course I'm planning my next batch. Mostly from information I've read on this forum, I'd like to make a hard cider by pitching onto my already existing yeast cake. My plan is to get as much liquid out of the fermenter as...

Newbie with a dumb newbie problem.

Wow, I can actually answer this one! ABV = OG - FG x 131.25. Assuming that you meant your OG was 1.055 and your FG 1.010 (otherwise you'd have a 59% ABV, yikes!), 1.055 minus 1.010 equals .045; multiply .045 by 131.25 equals 5.9% ABV.

So, where are all the women?

Some of the best ones: "Does your boss know you're touching that stuff? Where is he?" "How can a little girl like you know what all those buttons do?" And my personal favorite: "Are you keeping that seat warm for the engineer?" Ummmm...yes, actually - I am. :cross:

NO! Omigod, was I supposed to??? I don't have enough electricity to make it work anyway. And we don't have many thunderstorms and NO trains. I'm such a failure.

It was just once, I swear!!! Seriously - how can you take a reading without taking off the lid?

OMG I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Irish Stout from the Brewer's Best kit.

First time brewer here. Six days. Six long days of resisting the urge to check, to panic, to second guess. Everything went according to plan, fermentation started in 24 hours, steady bubbles for about 3 days, then quiet. I could see the ring of krausen by shining a flashlight from above the...

So, where are all the women?

Dude - 5 pages of this and you think I'm a man? :drunk:

So, where are all the women?

Now that's an interesting point. I've been involved in male-dominated fields my entire adult life. I was a professional sound engineer on the road for years, and you can't imagine some of the comments I would get. So, do I gravitate towards the same types of hobbies? For the women on here, do...

So, where are all the women?

Haha. For the "masculine feel" I was referring more to the "how many times have you peed behind a tree while you were brewing?" threads, or the "my wife thinks my beer sucks!" comments - but I suppose the second one is a bit of an assumption these days as well. :-D

So, where are all the women?

Here's a hint: if they use "SWMBO" in a post - not a woman. ;)
