HELP I think I screwed my batch up

Leaving the wort alone overnight should be fine. Just make sure to be meticulous about sterilizing your fermenting bucket, and anything else that comes in contact with your cooled/cooling wort. Be sure to aerate the wort once you are ready to pitch your yeast. And, as stated, dry yeast...

Been Uping my Game and would appreciate some advice

Thanks! Feel free to reach out if you come across any issues while building your own stir plate. I'd be happy to help you troubleshoot a bit. And yes, having a stir plate definitely makes one more inclined to create starters. It's more effective than the periodic shaking method, and is fully...

    Question about sparging

When determining sparge water, you need to consider the volume of beer that you want, and then add extra water to account for volume lost due to evaporation during boil, grain absorption (left behind during mash), equipment loss (liquid left behind during draining of kettle, mash tun, etc). I...

Been Uping my Game and would appreciate some advice

I would third the stir plate as something to consider. Pitching a healthy starter will greatly shorten fermentation lag time (reduced chance of infection/contamination), and help to ensure a clean, complete fermentation every time. That, and then just be meticulous about recording your original...

    Chilling

I'll often do something similar to this, where I fill a 5 gallon bucket with ice water, and then will use a submersible pump to run the ice water through my immersion chiller. Essentially, this pump attached via some tubing to my immersion chiller...

Best type of stir bar for DIY stir plates

Either the egg, or a stir bar with a central pivot ring should work better than a plain stir bar. The plain ones have a lot more surface friction than those pivoting on a central point, and so they tend to get thrown as soon as you approach higher rpms. Another thing to look out for is the...

    Need Help Raising ABV Please

If you want to ensure that the yeast fully attenuates the grain sugar, you could add the cane sugar a few days after primary fermentation has started (when the specific gravity gets around 1.02-1.025, if you're measuring). Just boil it in a couple cups of water to sterilize and make a syrup...

Show us your DIY stir plate!

Here are a few photos of one of my recent stir plate builds. It's an analogue speed control with a 3W 220ohm potentiometer controlling the fan speed. Rocker on/off switch, and a .2A hard drive fan. Got a 2.1mm jack in the back, so that the power cord is detachable for storage.

    my small footprint 110volt-1500watt system

Awesome design and craftsmanship! I'm curious as well, how does the 1500W element handle a 5-6 gallon boil? Could you give us the approximate time it takes you to get from sparge to boil? Thanks for sharing the build!
