So... What did Santa bring you?

3 All Grain kits, flight board with chalkboard, and "Bear - The Life and Times of Augustus Owsley Stanley III" by Robert Greenfield. Already finished the book today while waiting for our adult daughter to come out of surgery to remove a cancerous thyroid. Not the best holiday season, but...

Can a plastic bucket just break?

Sun exposure will degrade plastic buckets and then they break easily although this could take years of exposure. Old recycling buckets commonly have this happen. If your garage is very cold and you drop an empty bucket it's possible that could break as well as they get more brittle when cold.

    Stc-1000+

I can report that older units marked '0602 05 R QC' do not have this board version. I have 3 that are 2-3 years old and have board Power_v1.1 with chip N79A8211. Damn the bad luck.

House Lights, Electric Heat, Winter, and Entropy

'Light' is not heat. Infrared energy is heat and is a narrow spectrum at the red end of visible light, and beyond. Many forms of heat produce no visible light at all due to their longer wavelength.

    FastFerment conical fermenter??????

Since a new valve is only $13 I'm going that route for now, plus I could use a couple more accessories too. That buys me time to hunt them down.

    FastFerment conical fermenter??????

Has anyone looked for or found orings for the valve? I decided to fully disassemble the valve for a proper cleaning and the shaft orings are clearly damaged and it only makes sense to replace the ones under the ball seat rings. They don't appear to be common sizes, inch or metric. Has anyone...

    Anvil Burner with Natural Gas?

The 'converter' is the jet already noted. Propane has a higher specific heat, and under higher pressure. Propane comes in high and low pressure versions, and the jet is different for both. The low pressure version is still higher than natural gas. Natural gas is at a very low pressure, and...

So where do we buy ingredients now?

Yes, NB owned them. love2brew.com is another good choice.

Well, I won't do that again!

The seal is not really relevant here. In a chest freezer the CO2 will build up and displace the air in the chamber. The better the seal, the higher the internal pressure will be, but they are not hermetically sealed, so it won't be much. Unless there is an opening of lesser restriction at the...

Welding stainless mesh... anyone done it?

Silver solder. I've done several this way and it works pretty well. The key thing I learned on this is to pre-solder the 2 edges (aka 'tin' them), then you just flow in the solder to join them, and if you have a big a$$ soldering iron, use that. I've used: a std propane torch but it tends to...

    Old-time Brewery Recipes?

Yes, it was a really cool event. The cemetery has been doing beer related events for a number of years, but they went a different direction last year. I'm hopeful they will do something like this again. There were probably lots of logs, but in most cases nothing was saved when the breweries...

    Old-time Brewery Recipes?

I'm not able to name any specific sources (bad memory....), but I've seen quite a bit of talk about resurrecting pre-prohibition beers over the last few years. Even the BJCP style guidelines have added a new category for Historical Beers. I was involved with an event 2 years ago, The Beer...

What came in the mail for you today?

A 3rd place ribbon from Motown Mash! Kinda looks like it should be for a prize winning hen at the county fair, but I'm not complaining! And some cool swag from their sponsors.

    Electric conversion

Is the EPO switch Emergency Power Off (E-stop in OP's dwg)? If so, it will do nothing as drawn. It needs to be in the coil latch circuit, specifically between NO2 and the coils, or between start and com1/2. On further review, there's more that looks wrong. Where does Line1 get to the coils...
