Thats a great idea. must give it a go! I usually use a diluted PVA adhesive - polyband is the brand I use, I dunno if that's available everywhere though. Dilute it quite well with water, and it goes a long way. I used dip the whole label into it, but that was with black and white labels. Color...

making a starter from a commercial beer

From "Brew classic european beers at home" 1. Stand the donor bottle in a cool place and leave it undisturbed for a day or two to allow the yeast to settle in the bottom. 2. Make up a yeast starter. 3. When the starter has cooled to room temperature, carefully uncap the donor botle and decant...

I'll try that - went with a two-tone green wash effect last night, but couldn't find a nice color to match the scroll with it. May lose the scroll for that one. Where did you get the font for that Rohan's Bitter. Looks cool. Fact the whole label does. I've found some reasonably decent fonts...

    Mr. Beer

and the fact that the mr beer is a one stage ferment versus a 2 stage if you go with a beginner setup (I'm counting the bottles as the second stage by the way - rather than the beer sitting on the trub till it's gone.)

how do you mean it looks strange? It tends to have several windows, but no real program window. However if you're on a windows box you can use "gimpshop" which puts it all in the one window. I usually use this, but there's very little difference between them to be honest - some things pop up in...

Hmmm. how to use the gimp?!?!? Well I have to admit it took me a fair while to get the hang of it. It's not so much of a drawing tool as a manipulation tool. All the images I've used are bastardized from somewhere or other - eg I took the scroll from some place, the badgers head from another...

Ok - heres the Duvel clone. Not so sure about this, i think it's missing somehting and the christmas beer and the (unfinished) Abbey Ale.Think it needs a different color border or something - it's a bit dull. Won't have a badgers head in it either methinks.

was looking for a badger that was facing away, but turning around so you could see his arse and also his face smiling. I can't draw though, so can't do that. Might ask my girlfriend's sister....

    Bottling concern

I use a wing capper also, with no problems.I lock it down hard, release, turn the bottle ~90 degrees and lock it down again. Seems to do the job just fine. I think I broke 2 bottles in like 200 or so doing this. Not a big deal.

ta! Finally figured out how to use The Gimp. I have Christmas Ale, Duvale (Duvel clone) and Abbey Beer labels all at home. Labelling is great fun. The only problem is I only have an inkjet, and the ink runs when the labels get wet :( anyone got a solution for that???

Here's some I made.... This was for a party keg. We went Binge drinking that night :) For a friends' 30th birthday party. And for a bock beer. This was pretty much the first I made. I have some others I'll post from home.

    Harp is from Canada?

didn't we discover that Guinness was made in the US??? don't think we touched on harp and the others though, so they could be made in Canada or somewhere - i have no idea. my point in this thread though was that it has little to no market over here.

    Harp is from Canada?

I didn't think they still made Harp. It's almost unheard of over here. I swear that I have NEVER seen anyone ordering a pint of harp in the pub. EVER. In fact I don't even remember the last pub I saw harp on draught. The only person I know who has admitted to drinking harp is a lad in work. He...

Bottles from the UK - are they re-used?

yeah rolling rock over here in Ireland are useless for refilling cos of those stickers. Usually I just leave my bottles in a bucket of bleachy water and the labels come right off.

    Disastrous newbie siphoning session

another option: my syphon tube has a wee tap at the end to shut off the supply. I put a small lenght of tubing (2 inches or so) onto the end of the tap and suck. When i taste beer I turn off the tap and disconnect the small lenght of tubing. Now I can put the syphon where it's supposed to syphon...

Opinions on the roto-keg system- HELP

the size and the fact that it's co2 charged have no bearing on the taste i'm afraid - what goes in comes out. :). i'm not familiar with the system otherwise to comment on it. sorry
