    my first starter

I just add my yeast powder to cooled, boiled water, about 27-30oC, wait for about 20 mins, and dump into the fermenter. No problems yet [knocks on wooden head]

    Layer of hops on fermenter

i airlock both my primary and secondary. I have two plastic (yeah I know I know) fermenters with bottling taps, so they can double as primaries or secondaries.

    How Many Bottles?

Her: Too many. Me: must keep hunting. I'd guess about 250 or so, mostly 330 ml, although I've been consciously buying 500mls bottles where possible. It's gotten to the stage where I am starting to dump the green ones now! But here's the kicker. I'm taking a year off work next year to go...

    screwed up beer laws

Lads, personally I think that the most screwed up law ye have over there is the 21 age limit on alcohol. It's bad enuff here in Ireland at 18, but it's just draconian at 21. In parts of europe it's 16 for beer and wine, 18 for spirits. That's a much better idea in my opinion.

    Belgian Ales!!

LaChouffe is delicious, one of my favs. They also do a McChouffe as well which has the little gnomes dressed up in tartan trousers, ala scotland. That's harder to find, even in Holland I didn't get much of it, but remember that it's damn good. Typically I discovered most of my new beers after...

    grolsch bottles

picture the scene. a crowded backyard bbq. cases of homebrew. fun frolics a bit of banter and everyone gently prising the caps off their beer... :) I could possible see it happening for the first few arrivals. thats about it though

First time cooking with my own brew!!!!

i'd hate to "waste" it like that. I mean we spend so much time making it.... there again, I don't cook with alcohol much at all anyway....

I generally aim for about 7cm wide by around 10 cm high give or take. you can always scale them, but text doesn't really scale too well unfortunately.

    Newboy plays with beer kit

Hi Ochre, you should also put some sugar i with that creamyx to help the priming. AFAIK the creamyx just adds head, but no real sparkle if I'm not mistaken. (at least when I used that stuff, I also primed with sugar is what I'm trying to say). Make sure you have a Hambilton Bard CO2 cannister...

Nice work Walker. Who's the old hag you used in the picture though :) Hey maybe we can get this thread made sticky where we can post up all the labels. I like looking at other peoples. Waldos is real nice too, the elephant looks very 3 dimensional

    Harp is from Canada?

Update. The lad in work brought a can in for me (cans only here, doesn't come in bottles). Pretty tasteless up front but there's an aftertaste in there I don't like. Loads of head when poured. Bit nasty really. I won't be buying it. I've now seen some ads on TV for it, they're rebranding it...

    from primary to secondry

yeah I use those sort of kits too (I'm guessing you're using Coopers or so). I usually go to secondary then bottles - makes quite a big difference I think. At the very least it means it gets another couple of days before you start drinking it, cos once it's in the bottles a week or 2 the...

    Hi from the UK

a courier arrived at 7am???? Man I'd be well miffed if that happened! Sure I wouldn't even have turned off the alarm for the first time by then! bloody hell!. how did you hear the bell???

    Born On

I think there's more to it than that. I can get 2 different sort of hangovers. A headachy one, and a full body one, where I have a headache but my stomach is in ribbons, and it feels like I've been run over by a herd of stampeding elephants. With this sort of one, I'm a gonner for the day. It...

    Hi from the UK

Hi, I'm from Ireland, but I know there's a handful of ppl from the UK here too. This is a great place to find loads of info. One word of warning though, you'll find yourself spending more and more time looking through posts here. It starts to take over.... Hmmmm. Better do some work methinks...
