    Questions about adding Oak chips

Just got done with a 'bourbon barrel' inspired Baltic Porter and used oak chips the first time. I soaked them in whisky, no sanitization prior, for about 14 days. Poured off excess whiskey before adding them to the secondary with the beer. aged for 90 days, and the beer came out excellent...

    "Cereal Killer" grain mill

Hahah, I've done this for every batch I've made on my system- over 20 batches, most with grainbills greater than 20lbs. The Cereal Killer is a great mill, I vacuum mine out after each hand-milling effort and it seems to hold a gap well.

    Hunter's Basement E-Brewery Build

Took it with my action cam and the audio wasn't as good as I would have liked. Boosted it up, but it still is a bit quiet

    Sparging too fast?

I'd say you're sparging about half as long as you need to for that batch size. We do 12-13g into our BK and 10g out of the fermenter and I'm fly sparging for 60 minutes minimum (often 75-90).

    Using Starsan in Sparge Water

Exactly my sentiments. I imagine if your water only requires minor adjustments (a drop or two) it's not going to be a big deal... But in my case, I work with VERY hard water which is slow to react to acidic ph modifications. I'd be adding 8-9ml to get the reaction I'm after. I'll stick...

    Massachusetts Mosaic Hops

Mine came in yesterday, vacuum had broken, but the hops were intact. Smelled great. I popped em' back on the vacuum sealer and tossed them in the freezer for an upcoming brew. Thanks again.

    Using Starsan in Sparge Water

I've never heard of using a sanitizing chemical as a brewing water adjustment. Why not just use a standard acid?? What benefit does star san offer other than being something you had on your shelf. Also, how much do you normally need to add to get the adjustment in pH you're after? My...

    Dry hop squeeze and time

I usually remove bags and let them drip out an excess before tossing. I'll give them a squeeze if I'm in a hurry, aside from getting slightly more turbid runoff from the hop sack, I've seen no downside. Pretty sure the 'don't squeeze' rule is from steeping specialty malts during mash.

Big Mouth Bubblers are dangerously thin

Out of curiosity, I pulled my Gen1 off the rack yesterday night (it has been used twice) and just did a quick spot check of the thickness. On the top and bottom, it has appreciable thickness, but in some of the 'stamped out' square areas, the glass is eggshell thin. Has anyone had luck...

    Paranoid Campden Tablets Questions

100% correct, unless you're running a tankless heater directly into your hlt, I wouldn't recommend pouring water from the HWH into your batch. That water is disgusting...
