1st bottle taste - something wrong

No no metal tub. Cheapo plastic from wal mart. I've recently learned however, that bottling, with priming sugar, is in effect another full fermentation process. I thought it was just a carbing process. So, basically it has to go through to whole process of fermentation in the bottle, with...

1st bottle taste - something wrong

I had no thoughts it would make me sick, just that it tasted bad. I was shocked that I felt ill. I never got sick, just felt ill. But I'll wait on this one and see, but I'm going to suggest to NB to change their aging schedule on this one or else not include it as a noobie kit with their...

1st bottle taste - something wrong

ANother question. I;ve left it at 70 degrees this week. I have some PET bottles in the batch and they seem very hard. What if a bottle is fully carbed, but is not fully conditioned? What do you do? Will it still condition in the fridge? The fridge will stop carbonation, but will it...

1st bottle taste - something wrong

Brew day was my first ever for this one. I made the mistake of keeping the lid partially on, but from what I've read, since its extract, it shouldn't be a huge prob, but.... I pitched the yeast at 73F. a little high I know, but the directions with the kit said anything below 80, so then...

    1st Bottled Batch Help

I'm very new, but I do know that co2 dissolves much better in cold water than warm. Speculating that your co2 comes out easily in the warm beer, but is dissolved in. The cold. Warm up a cold one and see what happens. I would guess there isn't enough extra co2 in the cold ones to instantly...

1st bottle taste - something wrong

Our water has higH iron, but we have an iron filter and a second filter. I used Poland spring for 80% of this, batch. We,ll see how the next batch turns out with100% of house water. I'll try the beer in a month and see what develops.

1st bottle taste - something wrong

Ive read: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/bottling-tips-homebrewer-94812/#post1030387 Revy's wise advice. And I accept it. Its just the Being sick part I'm worried about. If it was just the flavor, I'd just wait. But... There's nothing I can do except wait anyways so... Just trying to...

1st bottle taste - something wrong

It smells fine. The yeast is well settled at the bottom and I left a fair amount of beer in the bottle. The taste itself was not nauseating (but yes a twangish taste in the bottle, not in the hydrometer sample) , but the after effects surely were. I did put the bottle in the freezer to...

1st bottle taste - something wrong

Ok, so, My first brew ever which was Caribou Slobber, 2 weeks in the bottle. I tasted the first one Yesterday. More to know what 2 weeks in the bottle tasted like rather than expectations that it was done and ready to drink. It had been carbing at 62 to 64 degrees, since I can't find a...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Pirate Ale

I was wondering how important the coconut flavor is to this beer. Does it come across strong or just a hint? Also, what coconut flavor , either an extract or Malibu rum, etc... have people used, aside from racking onto coconut in secondary. I plan to add rum and the coconut flavor during...

    4 gal

I see now. had I used the 1 gal the bag, it would just fall off the end. :drunk: ha ha I told the lady at Home depot that I couldn't figure out why I need a 5 gal bag, but that people far more knowledgeable said to get a 5 gal bag. I bought both. Thanks!

    4 gal

I'll try that next time. After 3 weeks and cold crashing for a few days, the cake was solid but the top was doughy and it didn't help that I stuck the tip of the siphon into it, lol. Luckily I stopped with a sihpon tube 1/2 full of yeast goop. Due to your many posts on the subject I have...

    4 gal

Ok. I'm a little confused as to the bag filter. Are we trying to put a filter over just the intake of the siphon or are you moving the siphon around inside the larger 5 gal bag?

    Carb. question

Thanks. I've found your advice in many posts to be to to the effect of RDWHAHB, which I think in general is usually right when someone is questioning something they did. Jeff

    Carb. question

Yes that is true, however, my package was 5 oz weight = 8 oz in a measuring cup. If I had a bulk supply of corn sugar that would not work. Just for this instance 4/5 of 8 fluid OZ worked out to 4 oz or 6.4 oz liquid measure. A scale is surely much better. Jeff

    Carb. question

Crud. Thinking the 2 liter was a major mistake. I didn't realize a larger container would take longer. You think I can still bottle it instead? I bottled it yesterday. Jeff

    4 gal

Good Ideas. For the pain strainer bags, I bought a 1 gal and a 5 gal. is there a need for the 5 gal over the 1 gal? Just to be clear, My issue isn't clear beer, as I got good settlement and clarity in the primary. I won';t swirl the primary, just the kettle prior top primary. But The...

    Carb. question

I got 5 oz of priming sugar from NB, which equally 8 fluid oz in a measuring cup. I just did the math to get to 4 oz.

    Carb. question

How much longer do larger sized bottles need to carb? I put some Ina 2 liter pet and a 1 liter pet as well s some 20 oz. the pet was just to see what happened. Jp

    4 gal

I just bottled my first brew, but I only got a little over 4 gal into the bottling bucket. It was CS extract. I know I lost some to the trub in the boil kettle and again some from the primary. Once I got close to the yeast cake the auto siphon started to become light tan and the bottom of the...
