    freezer heater help

I used a ceramic reptile heater, but found that the top of the fv was very hot (I ferment in a 1/4 bbl Sanke) even though the beer was at temp. Plus, the inside top of my freezer was starting to bubble. So I think that the air was heating unevenly. I just ordered this...

Is oxygenating with pure O2 better than shaking?

Thanks. I did a quick search on "Cardinal medical flow meters", though, and there are way too many options! Do you have a model number or a picture? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

What flow meter do you use?

    How do you cold crash?

Thanks. I've heard that the cold crashing could pull out some of the hop oils, so I was wondering if dry-hopping after cold crashing would be better. But does dry-hopping work as well in cold temps? I have a temp-controlled chamber like the OP, so I can do this in any order--just trying to...

    How do you cold crash?

For those of you who are kegging, do you cold crash before or after transfer to the serving keg? Before or after dry-hopping? 1. dry-hop --> transfer --> cold crash 2. dry-hop --> cold crash --> transfer 3. cold crash --> dry-hop --> transfer 4. cold crash --> transfer --> dry-hop 5...

DIY Sanke Valve Removal Tool suggestions

My current install time is about a minute or two, which is why I was seeking to improve. Maybe I just need more practice...

DIY Sanke Valve Removal Tool suggestions

No worries. I am pretty handy with tools, but I don't have easy access to a drill press, just a "free style" drill. I looked again at my drill bit, and it is a cobalt split point 1/16" bit. Would this work as well as a carbide bit? It says it can be used on stainless steel. I have no...

DIY Sanke Valve Removal Tool suggestions

I did try two different "screw starter" tools to make a divot, but neither was hard enough to dent the ring. Would something like this http://www.homedepot.com/p/General-Tools-Hardened-Steel-Center-Punch-89/202025674 be hard enough?

DIY Sanke Valve Removal Tool suggestions

I have a carbide bit, but I can't keep it in place on the ring long enough to drill it out, and I can't figure out how to make a "starter" dent in the ring.

DIY Sanke Valve Removal Tool suggestions

Dredging up an old thread... :ban: How did you drill through the spiral ring? I tried to put a dent in the ring to hold the drill from sliding around, but the ring is too hard to dent. How did you keep the drill from moving around?

    Sanke Fermentation: Yeast/Trub Harvester build

Thanks for the info. I don't harvest yeast right now (I just build a bigger starter), but I'll keep this build in the back of my mind.

    Sanke Fermentation: Yeast/Trub Harvester build

OK. I also ferment in a sanke, but I use a sanke tap with a picnic tap attached to the liquid port for sampling. (I replace it with a hose when I pressure transfer to another keg). When I do a pressure transfer, only the section of trub\yeast that is right around the spear is transferred. Do...

    Sanke Fermentation: Yeast/Trub Harvester build

This looks cool--very elegant. Well done! :mug: What is the advantage of collecting the yeast without oxygen, though? You are just going to spin the heck out of it for a starter, right?

    Sanke Fermenter Sampling Valve

That's simple enough. I'll try that first before I do any cutting. Thanks for the info!

    Sanke Fermenter Sampling Valve

Dredging up an old thread...:mug: I am going to try this method too. How much trub comes out when you draw a sample? Did you cut off a bit of the spear?

    Measuring SG with a scale

Not to belabor the point (haha), but the TOP of the meniscus is at 1.040, and the bottom is lower than that... The diagram shows the meniscus with no thickness, but in reality it does have a top and bottom. I was under the impression you read it at the bottom, but I'm new to this game. But...
