British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

Im popping a bottle of this (my third homebrew ever) this friday, as i welcome my family over for supper. Fermented 3 weeks, bottled for 2 1/2 weeks. Crossing my fingers!

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I decided to retire my carboys. I used a Mr Beer little brown keg for the first time, and bottled from it yesterday in a breeze. I also had another 1-gal batch in a carboy i had to bottle right after, and that was uber annoying to do alone. So, between having to use a blow off tube, then an...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Im making an ipa with: 82% 2-row 7% crystal 20L 5% vienna 5% carapils 1% biscuit And bittered with 0.15oz Chinook @ 60 Im considering adding Citra at 15-5-0 as i wanna see what this hops is about, but the chinook smells so nice im wondering if i should add some alongside the citra.. What do...

This one looks good. I might try it tomorrow, although i m personally going to be aggressive with citra.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Yep, it s still 60mins mash or boil, although some ppl don t mash out. Those 2.5-3gal buckets are perfect. I read that food-grade is what u want, but #1, 2 and 4 plastics are fine. In fact, #2 would be the better of the three options. Not sure how food-grade differentiates itself tho. Please...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

To be honest, 1 gallon carboys are pretty annoying. Hard to clean, almost always needs a blowoff tube, after which the tube itself becomes a pain to clean. If you want my advice, get a Mr Beer little brown keg, you ll have the option to do 1, 1.5 or 2 gal batches with little hassle and easier...

BIAB is very easy.. Whether you decide to go that route or whether you end up purchasing that cooler as a MT, get a BIAB bag.. you'll find it very useful for all sorts of things

:rockin: how long did you wait before drinking your first bottle?

Bottled! After three weeks in primary fermenter, the hard part begins: waiting yet another while :(

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Very possible, i didnt think of that! The two i popped were swingtops given to me by a friend. Ill have a look as you might be right!

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Do you guys use batch priming for 1 gal quantities? I tried bottle priming with Coopers Carbonation drops (just less cleanup for a few bottles' worth), but on 450ml and 2 or3 500ml bottles. I know the drops are meant for smaller 350ml and i figured slight undercarb rather than overcarb...

Help Choosing Hops for a simple recipe

Hah, I do see Cascade brews pretty often so I'll avoid that for now as I know what it's about. Amarillo is intriguing but I have too little of it I'm afraid. Either way, I'm wondering if it's all that different from Falconer's Flight: I guess I'll never know until I brew. Willamette might...

Help Choosing Hops for a simple recipe

Thanks for the reply! :p I was leaning toward Willamette although Amarillo appears very intriguing. Would you stick with 1 oz total for a 1gal batch (0.4oz @ 15mins, 0.6 @ flameout is what i did with my first batch of FF)? Or modify those quantities with Willamette?

Help Choosing Hops for a simple recipe

Also, this will be a 1 gallon batch and I'm uncertain of proportions for a 15 minute boil. BasicBrewing used 1oz of Simcoe-Mosaic for their Speedy IPA. I take it this amount varies depending on the hops (aa%) used?

    First Starter. Blow off?

starter was the keyword. Told you im new to this :) i thought you were actually talking about your fermenter

    First Starter. Blow off?

Not sure i understood you fully.. but when i use a blow off tube, i also use a narrow but deep jar-tupperware i fill up with sanitizer solution and put the end of the tube in there to "airlock" my beer. It'll bubble away kinda like an actual airlock. Was that the type of info you were seeking...

Help Choosing Hops for a simple recipe

Hey guys, I've brewed 4 small batches so far but they're all fermenting or currently carbonizing-conditioning in bottles. As I've not tasted any yet, I'm itching to keep my pipeline varied to be able to crack one after the other and learn about what was done right, what was done wrong and what...

    Oatmeal Stout Smooth Oatmeal Stout

Mine s a dark brown rather than black, but i did get that half inch to an inch only of krausen. Will be tasting a conditioned bottle this weekend when my old man gets into town.

    2 gallon fermenter

Hah amazing! Thanks for this precious info. I'll definitely guide my choice. Going to take a peek in Walmart to see if i can find this container you're talking about. Thank you gents!

    2 gallon fermenter

Ill be doing batches closer to 2 gallons, and the spigot looks convenient for bottling, especially when doing it solo. Will definitely look into better bottle. I would have picked up a Mr Beer LBK had it not been for the #3 plastic (im sure it s alright but dont want to risk regretting it later...
