need an idea for 2nd brew

I am fermenting my 1st brew still (Hefeweizen). It was easy. No steeping and only one hops. All seems to be going well. I did a 3 gallon boil and used my bathtub to chill. Anyway I'm anxious to start another but want to take baby steps. I like Fat Tire. Is there a simple recipe that I can...

I added my hops too early

I know I blew it. What's going to happen. I added the hops with the malt at around 170* instead of waiting for it to boil first. Then it took a long time to boil the 3 gallons of wort (I'm brewing Hef). So the hops was in there much longer than the recipe called for. Will I be okay?

    Airlock Worries

I had the same concerns. It's my first batch too. On the 3rd morning my airlock spewed foam all over the lid of my bucket. I had wrapped towels over the fermenter to keep it warm and dark. Anyway I simply refilled the airlock with the sanitizer solution. Can I expect my beer to smell the...

    cooling wort question

I also plan to do a full boil. Lots of good information here. I don't plan on getting a chiller because our city water is always too warm (Norco Ca). I'd have to invest in a submersible pump and a huge ice bucket. So what time tables are we working with? What is a good chill time and when...

I was looking for a recipe record keeping form. Is there a good phone app out there for that?

    metal taste

This Mexican market by my house has an 8 gallon steel pot on sale for $16. I was going to grab it but was told that if it's not stainless steel/aluminum I shouldn't use it because it will give the beer a metal taste. I was told to check it with a magnet first. Is that true?

    Glossary of Terminology

I have been spending a lot of time reading threads. I am learning a great deal in a short period of time. I have yet to brew my 1st batch yet. I find myself flipping pages in various brew book's glossary of terms and looking up words on the internet. Besides the actual brewing terms and...

Didn't snap the lid down. Told me not to.

I do want to watch the fermentation so maybe I'll use a glass carboy as my primary fermenter. What is the best way to transfer to the bottling bucket? I'm thinking with as little agitation as possible.

What am I getting myself into?

Here is what happened. We had a party for my daughter and we didn't finnish off the keg. (Budweiser). A week after the party my friend told me to hang on to the keg he wanted to conduct an experiment. He and I boiled a gallon of the warm left over beer and through a copper tube we sent the...

    So,,,,,how much will I save

I pay $6 for a tall glass of Hefe at the local brewery in my city. I feel it's worth it. Yum. If I learn to brew my own what can I expect a tall glass to cost me once I have all my equipment down? Just curious.

What am I getting myself into?

To be honest I feel a little intimidated after reading some of these threads. I decided after reading 2 books on home brewing that I would give it a try. I'm not a scientist and don't plan on mastering the art of making beer but I believe I have the time and energy and even the enthusiasm to...

Didn't snap the lid down. Told me not to.

I have not attempted to brew my 1st batch yet but securing the lid and rigging some sort of airlock seemed pretty important from what I have been reading. Now I plan to use my primary plastic fermenter for 2 weeks at least. I have not read anything about it being a bad idea after 5 days. Am I...

    Online shopping

Before I impulsively run down and start buying equipment at my local brew shop which is my normal M. O., My wife has asked me to ask you guys what online site/company I might look into. I'm barely getting started, still in the homework stage. She's right. I should get the right stuff at the...

First brew advice - Young's lager

So are you saying that the hand pump or CO2 will carbonate the beer? I thought it was just for getting the beer out of the keg.

    New guy

The Recipe I'm looking for must be pretty standard because I seem to find it in most large restaurant or brewerie franchises I have been to. I'll need to pay more attetion now. I'm almost ready to go shopping for the equipment I'll need for my 1st batch. Just a little more homework left. Thanks

    New guy

The Alaskan Bootlegger's Diary was the first and second book I read (in one week). I am now reading Palmer's book. I am not even at the beginner stage yet. I have yet to get started. If I can brew my own Hefeweizen I'll be loving life. Of course it would be cool to set up shop in my garage...

    Hello from Norco Ca

I just read The Alaskan Bootleggers Bible. After I finished it in 2 days I re-read it again with a highlighter. I have only read a hand full of books twice in my life. I'm not sure why I'm so fascinated with this subject. I've been surfing for buckets and cappers for 2 days now. We'll see...
