Side by Side 4 tap keezer and dual zone Fermentor build

Thanks for the props. I got my temp controller dialed in by tweaking the settings and placing the temp probe for the keezer side in a test tube filled with water at the top corner of the freezer. It seems to have really helped stabilize the temp with minimal cycling of the compressor. I have...

compressor cycle settings and fridge air flow

Since my initial reading the temperature reading has been right on the money with less cycling.

compressor cycle settings and fridge air flow

I tried an experiment yesterday by placing the temperature probe in a glass of water to see if that would stabilize the temperature even further. I was disappointed when I got up this morning to see that the temperature was significantly off of the setpoint in my keezer side. I am going to have...

Side by Side 4 tap keezer and dual zone Fermentor build

Here are some shots of both zones going. Some are blurry so excuse the poor quality. I started the cold crash last night where the Irish red was in the mid 60's and it got down to 42 by this evening (set target temp at 40) I put a temp small heater in the top to keep it at 68. Empty 6 gal...

Help a newb build a kegging system?

I found homebrew finds on Twitter very helpful in finding great deals on quality parts. I think I got my perlick 630's for $36

compressor cycle settings and fridge air flow

Was doing some research last night and found out that the back cover panel on a fridge seems to be very important for compressor life / efficiency. The fridge I got off of CL was missing one so I was able to make a new one out of cardboard and it does seem to have a big impact on run time. I...

    Stc1000

I know I wired mine incorrectly the first time. I was used to bringing the hot and neutral to the connection but the way the stc is wired you bring the hot in one side and out the other to the hot on the outlet. All the stc does is just interrupt that flow. So what you end up having to do is...

Side by Side 4 tap keezer and dual zone Fermentor build

More great questions. Since there is really only one cooling unit the lowest any one chamber can be is the same temp that the freezer side is at. Having said that the top can ferm at 70 and the bottom can lager / cold crash and vice versa. There is some cold bleed between the zones and I had...

Just so happens I have a primary and secondary going in the top now and about to cold crash the bottom. I'll get some pics and upload tomorrow if my gravity is on point.

    Johnson temp control capabilities

Stc 1000's are cheap and work pretty well. You would need two for two different devices. Depending on the size of fermenters you need, many like myself have set up side by side fridges to handle multiple zones. The link for my side by side build is below...

Side by Side 4 tap keezer and dual zone Fermentor build

Great questions. I was concerned with the weight of two 5ish gallons of liquid and I needed some insulation between the two zones. To keep it simple I used 2x4's mounted to the walls of the fridge around the three inside walls. I kept an open space to route all of the fan and ac wires. I cut...

Shock Top clone - low Original specific gravity

So I am officially an idiot. I read online and heard from others that it was probably just a problem with mixing the water. I asked a guy at my LHBS about the issue and he recommended that I make sure my grain bag was very loose. Did two recipes last night and both were over starting gravity due...

Side by Side 4 tap keezer and dual zone Fermentor build

No issues so far. I think having the johnson controller allows the fridge to mostly cycle as normal. I have had a keg in the keezer for about three weeks with a Bock lagering in the bottom and a golden ale on top. So far so good. My only worry is the fridge running too much.

Side by Side 4 tap keezer and dual zone Fermentor build

I found a pretty cheap 7lb co2 tank and was able to hang it from the inside ceiling of the freezer compartment. I finished it off with a semi gloss black enamel. I tried to use the fridge paint in black but was only able to get the spray can and the coverage was horrible. I used a red oak...

Side by Side 4 tap keezer and dual zone Fermentor build

I added in two computer fans - one at the top in place of the old fan control and the second was added towards the bottom to allow for two different zones. I got two stc 100's from brewsbysmith and wired in the extra thermometer to read air temp. The fridge is plugged in to a Johnson A419...

Side by Side 4 tap keezer and dual zone Fermentor build

Hey all, I have been searching for an answer for my production dilemmas since the end of January. I currently have a closet that I converted the bottom half to a fermenter and separate 2 keg kegerator. The problem I ran into was I could really only ferment a lager or ale, I could only do...

Alcohol boost - higher OG or lower final?

Hey all, I am doing mini mash recipes and will occasionally add in a 1% boost. Since I am adding in as much as two gallons of water before measuring gravity I am having a hard time mixing it well enough to get a solid OG. so my question is does the alcohol boost raise the OG or lower the final...

    co2 and beer line management?

Just finishing up a side by side keezer / dual zone fermentation chamber build and I am left with loose gas and beer lines in the freezer. Seems like I have seen somewhere a management system that you could basically just push the tubes in and they would space out the lines so you could...

    filter wort?

I am doing mini mash recipes and using a brewvint yeast fuel and whirlfloc (irish moss) in the last 15 minutes of boiling. I seem to get a lot of sediment when cooling down under the 100 degree range. The sediment seems to be in suspension where I can't really just siphon the wort out. Does...
