    Multiple brews in a day

I usually do my batches consecutively. I have enough equipment to do two separate beers at once but that would mean too many things happening at the same time for my short attention span to handle. For a typical brew day I will use my 15 gallon keggle and my 72 quart coleman extreme mashtun...

    Multiple brews in a day

I usually do two different beers on the same day. If my timing is good (aka haven't had too much to drink) I can do two 10 gallon batches in around 8 hours. A typical single batch day takes 6-7 so it just makes sense for me to do two.

    Cast Iron Pans, good brands?

I found an entire set of Wagner Griswald ( 4 sizes) 20 years ago at a garage sale. Paid three dollars for all four.

    Immersion/stick blender to areate wort

The shaft on my stick mixer is stainless steel, removable and can easily be sanitized. It's also very powerful so I'm confident it can pull a strong vortex in five gallons of wort. Next batch is a 10 gallon which will be split into two fermenters. I'll give one the old school shake and the...

What I did for beer today

Made a starter for my all Galaxie IPA I'm brewing tomorrow! Never used Galaxie or even tasted them for that matter. At least not that I know of.

    Immersion/stick blender to areate wort

What a great idea! I have a nice one that would probably work well. It would be easy to sanitize too. I seriously doubt it could add too much oxygen (is that even possible?). Anyone have any reason it would not work?

    Best Cooler for MLT

I have the 62 qt Coleman Extreme and even though it looses almost no heat during an hour mash, it's a little too big for 5 gallon batches. I use it for 10 gallon batches only. (I have yet to do a high gravity 5 gallon batch which then I would consider it.) I keep a separate smaller 5 gallon...

What I did for beer today

Checked the gravities on my Cali Common and Breakfast Stout. I could have my first stuck fermentation on the stout. It's chilly in the basement right now so I added a heat belt and gave it a gentle swirl to rouse the yeasties awake. I hope that works.

What I did for beer today

Went up to Malty Dog Brewery and Supply and watched some people in the brew club (some of which are on here) brewing in the parking lot. Met some really cool guys. Learned a couple new tricks. I think I'll join their club! Now I'm brewing 2 consecutive batches. A breakfast stout and a...

Why do people use coolers for a MLT

My cooler, once preheated, looses very little heat. Less than two degrees in a 60 minute mash. I don't need a flame to keep my temps stable.

What I did for beer today

Planning my brew-cation. I took next week off and I'm brewing three beers! A california common, a breakfast stout and a 10 gallon batch of biermunchers centennial blonde. Also I built a smaller 5 gallon mash tun for some of the smaller beers I like to make.

    Growler from tap

Chill your clean growler thoroughly. I add a length of my liquid out tubing to the faucet. (just stuck it up in there) Just long enough to reach the bottom of my growler. Pour slowly and you should be able to get it filled without a lot of extra foam.

Using the winter weather - cooler fermenting suggestions?

California Common is a lager fermented at low ale temps. I have the same room in my house and am planning on doing one. As soon as I get some projects around the house done.
