    copper vs. stainless

    I prefer kryptonite.... that way if I ever have to fight someone who seems superhuman, I stand a chance.... That being said, I think its a matter of what you want to spend. Both are going to require cleaning, neither is going to be in contact with your wort long enough to cause issues with...

    Barley Crusher owners - please read.

    You may have posted in jest, but duct tape makes EVERYTHING better, why not homebrew!!?!??! Just sayin :)

    What Size Brew pot?

    I would do some evaporation calculations and figure out what volume of water you will need to brew your standard batches. The volume of water you start with will have to be the 10G you want to end with plus the water you plan to boil off. I would be surprised if you needed more than a keggle for...

    Sight Glass Project

    Like I mentioned, this weekend is a bad weekend for experimentation. I am going to try to find a step bit I can use to drill through these things while I am away this weekend and then I will let everyone know how the seal holds up.

    racking tubes are usually at MOST 1/16" thick... double that and you get an item a lot stronger. Besides, the thing is for reading fluid levels, not crossing the hudson bay... how strong does it really need to be?

    Sight Glass Project

    Its probably the same MATERIAL as a racking cane, but the walls are 1/8" thick....so its not breaking any time soon, I can ASSURE you of that.... I did some initial rigidity testing and that won't be an issue. Since its 3/8" OD tubing, its 1/8" wall --> 1/8" open air (for water/wort/etc to flow)...

    Sight Glass Project

    Like in mentioned, I brain farted on the o-rings.... they are going to get ordered this weekend and given McMaster's prompt shipping, I should have them monday/tuesday. I actually have to get a bag of 1/2" ID and 3/8" ID. The 1/2" is for the bulkhead and the 3/8 would be for the compression...

    Sight Glass Project

    You will need a 1/2" hole drilled at the entry point of the vessel in order for the nipple to fit through it. I am toying with the idea of adding a SS washer on each side of the wall...but im not sure its necessary.

    Sight Glass Project

    Now that everything (almost) has arrived, I put the prototypes together. I accidentally brain farted and bought 1/4" o-rings while I was ordering 1/4" everything else, so I will need to order another couple sets of those, but luckily, those are not crucial to putting the prototypes...

    SCORE!!! Got a sankey keg for free

    You can certainly go weldless! Its probably easier..... All you need is a ball valve, corresponding size nipple to go through the wall of the keggle, a corresponding size pipe coupling on the inside, and some high temp o-rings. If you need a parts list, Ive got a few.

    SCORE!!! Got a sankey keg for free

    This is a topic that has been discuessed, hotly debated, and beaten like a dead horse...(someone find that picture!!!) I think the tip I saw recently was, unless you are getting your kegs from a place like sabco, I wouldn't push the issue of ethics in reference to how you got it.... No one...

    Whats the deal with Austin Homebrew Supply???

    Just a heads up, Forrest is on vacation right now...which would probably why he hasn't jumped to the aid of his own store. I really will say that the processing/shipping time is a bit of a downside, but having Forrest on this site actively participating in conversations is the reason they get my...

    Igloo Ice Cube no Hold DIY {HLT}

    Depends on your method of draining and definition of the term therein. I have a coupling on the inside of the cooler, a nipple going through, and a ball valve attached to the outside. In the coupling, I have a compression fitting that connects to my copper manifold. As long as the manifold...

    Sight Glass Project

    The elbows aren't terrible, but the two compression fittings I would need for the tube and the temp gauge are 14 each! I didn't feel like scouring ebay to get the parts I was telling people i could get for X amount...since they aren't a fixed price marketplace.

    Sight Glass Project

    I go to school full time and work full time, it pretty much adds up to not much of a life outside of those. This is a way for me to use my spare time to polish up my mechanical DIY skills and let everyone get in on what I assume will be a great find. I can tell by the activity I have seen so...

    Igloo Ice Cube no Hold DIY {HLT}

    Can i suggest you ditch the 50 qt and go with this? Its what I got and its got some good advantages to your normal cooler. #1: Its blue.... thats the most important part...gotta love blue! :) #2: The handle, it telescopes all the way down for when its on the table/stand and can be raise to...

    Used Sanke Prices?

    Good luck.... Its a REALLY touchy subject on this and many other threads. Probably the only way you can be SURE its a legal keg would be to buy it from Sabco for an arm and a leg. Honestly, if you yourself don't do the deposit w/ no return, you can probably limit your guilt on the purchase. You...

    Sight Glass Project

    I am putting together a list of people interested and the quantity they are interested in. Just PM me or post here and I will add you to the sheet. The sheet is strictly tentative and I am using it to get a rough idea of how many I need to build. Its plently easy to delete your row in excel if...

    Sight Glass Project

    I suppose while I have everyone's attention as well, does anyone have a suggestion on a bit to use to drill through SS (keg in particular) I need to drill 2 size holes, one to allow a 1/2" NPT nipple to go through it, and the other to allow a 1/4" to go through it. I THINK I need a 3/8 and...
