    Hop Stand/Whirlpool - Getting great hop aroma/flavor

I've had promising results cooling down to 125 (post boil) and doing a whirlpool for about 20 min. To get the temp down quickly in the post boil I recirculate through my plate chiller with the cooling water on as usual, when I get down to temp I just turn the cooling water off and continue to...

Help convert hop schedule to include First Wort Hopping please?

Remember while the IBUs won't change that much the bittering profile is going to change quite a bit; its a little different to think about but a FWH IBU is much smoother than a boil addition IBU. This is a good place to start but know it may take a few brews to get the right balance of FWH...

    burner for a keggle

A lot of people, including me, use one of these grill grates on top of the burner, its large enough for a keggle to sit on and they're pretty cheap. Works very well...

    First Biab brew

Would agree with others on 10 gal batches in 15 gal kettle. I mash with 12 gallons and go from there. This usually leaves me 4 or 5 gallons short, I do a quick sparge in my fermenter bucket, works really well. Cheers!

    BIAB with volauf and sparge???

My feedback would be that you can probably skip the vorlauf step. I recirculate through the mash as you described and get 85% efficiency; the crush will make the difference. To be clear (no pun intended) the vorlauf won't make your beer any clearer; it will make your wort clearer, but all...

Never brewed - wanting to jump right into all grain

Take a look at BIAB, you only need one 10 gallon pot to start and can go from there.

Help a guy decide between BIAB and mash cooler

I was using a cooler mash tun before I started BIAB. You'll see some difference in clarity of wort going into the fermenter. Coming out of the fermenter you'll see no difference in clarity, no difference in quality. I'm getting a little better efficiency with BIAB 86% vs 82%. Being a...

    Beginning BIAB Brewer

Hi Goldbread, welcome to the forum! Good place to start is the IPA Recipe Database; you can follow one of the recipes there or look through them and see what kind of grains and hops are being used. Most of the recipes will be for 5 or 10 gallon batches, you'll need to convert them down to...

    Weighing down dry hop bag

Last couple of times I dry hopped I had 10 of the very strong magnets, I put 5 in a baggie in with my hops, the other 5 I used on the outside of my plastic fermentation bucket. The attraction was strong enough I could use the outside magnets to slowly pull the hop bag to the bottom of the...

Switching To Keggles - Building A Brew Stand

Those burners work well for 5 gallon batches, you probably want something bigger for 10 gallon batches. These are popular (http://www.homebrewing.org/High-Pressure-Cast-Iron-BANJO-Burner-_p_1746.html) and will get you boiling in about half the time. Higher cost vs more time is the...
