    07.07.07 Hops Poll #2 - Which Varieties?

Aight, let's do it. FWH 0.50 oz Simcoe (add to 30m addition if you aren't doing AG) 60 0.50 oz Columbus 30 0.50 oz Simcoe 15 0.50 oz Amarillo 05 0.50 oz Amarillo 00 0.50 oz Amarillo, 0.50 oz Simcoe Dry 0.50 oz of each Total: 1 oz Columbus, 2 oz Simcoe, 2 oz Amarillo. I don't have...

    Cascade Pale Ale

The darker color would be from the biscuit in that recipe. I wouldn't be too concerned with anything cosmetic though. My other thinking is that you did what I did last time I was at the LHBS and said "Victory" when you meant to say "Vienna" :cross: :drunk:

    07.07.07 Hops Poll #2 - Which Varieties?

Wanted to bump this to get a **** recipe finalized. :D The vote (poll) seems to be for Columbus, Amarillo, and Centennial, with Simcoe and Willamette close behind. There has also been a fair amount of discussion/lobbying for the Simcoe/Amarillo pairing. I think we should come up with a...

1272 sounds real good, yeah. I'd like to see a higher flocculant yeast like that for clarity purposes.

We are here on the grain bill (as far as I can tell... no objections anyway) From: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showpost.php?p=210834&postcount=26 5.5 gallon recipe to get us to 7.0 SRM: SG 1.050 (75% eff) 7.00 lb 2-row 1.00 lb Wheat Malt 0.50 lb Vienna 0.50 lb Honey Malt 0.50 lb...

    hopping a Killian's-type red ale

I just drank the last bottle of an Irish-style Red tonight... man that sure mellowed out well since bottling in early July. I wish I had more :( Anyhow, my hop schedule (all Fuggles) was 1 oz at 60m, 1/2 oz at 15m, and 1/2 oz at 5. Kent Goldings have quickly become a huge favorite of mine...

    07.07.07 Hops Poll #2 - Which Varieties?

My two cents: Northern Brewers are a good neutral hop. If we're really looking for the malt flavor to come thru, we should look at hops that don't add much residual flavor, like Northern Brewer, EK Goldings, Fuggles, Willamette, Cluster... those types IMO. Saaz would be a cool finishing...

    Beer Carbonated and still SWEET:p

Assuming you used an ounce of each hop, it might be sweet -- malty. Neither of those varieties are very high alpha; an ounce of Fuggles at 40m isn't a lot of IBU for bittering. It would help to know the quantities of the hops, and the AA% of them. And was it 1/2 cup or 3/4 cup of sugar...

    07.07.07 Buy out

Yes I agree. But I think any shop is going to want a guaranteed amount before cutting their prices (for argument's sake, let's say $750). Do we have enough interest to drum up that kind of business for this project? And how do we guarantee it to the business? Now I could be waaaay off base...

    07.07.07 Recipe Poll

Then I think it should be so. Here's a 5.5 gallon recipe to get us to 7.0 SRM: SG 1.050 (75% eff) 7.00 lb 2-row 1.00 lb Wheat Malt 0.50 lb Vienna 0.50 lb Honey Malt 0.50 lb Crystal 10L 0.50 lb Victory Malt 0.25 lb Biscuit Malt :mug: Do we have a winner??? :mug:

    07.07.07 Buy out

Not to be a buzzkill, but thinking about it from a business standpoint, they'd likely only do it with some sort of guaranteed quantity. That might mean a deposit in advance, or something like that... Seems logistically difficult for an online group spread out in all corners of the country (or...

Beer Kits: Austin Homebrew vs. Northern Brewer

I deal exclusively with AHS... mainly for the reason that they are my closest LHBS and they have great prices/shipping times for when I don't want to make the 2 hour trek to Austin. The "Gold Seal" kits I believe are prepackaged kits with cans of malt, etc. I prefer AHS's own kits for the...

    maple syrup

I know that some folks around here have used molasses in their brews... I'd imagine pancake syrup would have similar qualities, with a little different taste. If you decide to experiment (and I encourage you do!), be sure you sterilize it by adding it to some water and hold it at ~170F for...

    07.07.07 Hops Poll

What are we thinking for the hop additions? 60/45/30/15/5/0/Dry? I'd like to lobby for a FWH for the all-grainers instead of maybe the 45 minute addition. Obviously that wouldn't work for extract brewers.

    07.07.07 Hops Poll

It looks like, at least wth the early returns, that it's going to be 7 additions with a smaller variety. While not my first choice, it's probbaly more palatable and will really accentuate the solid maltiness of a 7-grain bill. I'll be doing the 7-variety thing just for kicks if it doesn't end...

On a less serious note, how about this label? It's a cheap MS Paint version, so feel free to edit or expound as necessary.
