    Another DIY Stir Plate

The stir bar works sooooo much better than just a piece of metal you may have lying around. Very slick design. 15 bucks or so for what we are using it for is way better than spending 100 on the professional version.

    Beer roadtrip across America

Well I took the plunge and bought an Airstream. A 76 Caravanner to be exact. It's going to a be a project to get it completely road worthy, but I'll just consider it a labor of love. Here's a link to a few pictures: http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh5/complete_geek/Airstream/

    Louisiana hard sweet tea

Well it has been 3 weeks today so I could barely contain myself as I tried my experiment. I boiled 6 cups of regular table sugar in 2 quarts of water, cooled it in an ice bath and added 4 crushed campden tablets. I then added the sugar water to my bottling bucket and then siphoned my tea from...

In Monroe. Nowhere near Lafayette. I've only driven through there, never stopped really.

    is tea a tough ferment?

Well I'm trying the sugar water method myself right now. It certainly looks like tea right now. Who knows, could be a disaster or a pleasant surprise. I feel a bit like a mad scientist though. I will find a workable recipe. Such lofty goals I have.

    Louisiana Hard Lemon Sweet Tea

Actually I boiled 1 quart of water and added 6 cups of corn sugar to it the next day. Such low ABV just wouldn't do for me ;) I will definitely let you know how it tastes.

I got shut down - no more outdoor brewing

Not to be petty, but I can sure play that game if they want to. You may not be able to beat the system, but you sure can break it. I would look at the handbook and report every single infraction that I saw. Hey, it's their rules. If they are going to be A$@es about it then I can be a bigger one.

    Beer roadtrip across America

If you're going to dream, dream big. At least that's how I feel. The wifey and I have decided that in one years time, we are going to rent out our home and travel the country in an airstream (which we have yet to purchase). Besides the once in a lifetime experience of traveling all across...

    Louisiana hard sweet tea

I took your advice and boiled 6 more cups of corn sugar into 1 quart of water and added that to my carboy. It's bubbling away happily so now I'll just be patient and see how it turns out.

I'm pretty sure it was around 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inch ID. Hope that helps.

    Louisiana hard sweet tea

That's true. Oddly enough my grocery store didn't have any. I was in a rush, that's no excuse but there you have it. I will definitely seek it out next time.

    Louisiana hard sweet tea

It has been about 24 hours. would I just throw it in and shake it up? Don't have much in the way of something to stir up a carboy.

    Louisiana Hard Lemon Sweet Tea

Here's a few pictures from brew day. Plus a few from the next morning. Minimal krausen and airlock activity. OG was low like I said. Hopefully a happy mistake. Not sure how much alcohol twang would be good for a sweet tea.
