    Bulk Hops Question

Galena (bittering), Cascade (all-round), and Willamette (aroma) would probably cover your bases pretty well.

Recipe of stuff at hand - what do you think?

Ahhh, my mistake; sorry about that. I'd say just ride it out then. It will be beer, and probably quite drinkable (I'm thinking a low alc. IPA).

Recipe of stuff at hand - what do you think?

I'd suggest just delaying the EKG addition to 10-15 minutes. It will bring the IBUs down, and contribute more flavour/aroma (or so I understand, still learning).

    Auto siphon and bottle filler

I'd like to know the answer to this too.

    Do hops affect hydometer?

Assuming a 5 gal. batch, BeerSmith gave an OG of 1.077. Seems more in line with what a winter warmer should be; I agree with you, 1.048 seems low for the style. But I'm new to brewing, so don't rely too much on me!

Wil kraussen fall after fermentation is done?

I gave it the wort a pretty hard pour into my primary, but otherwise didn't aerate. It wasn't until after I had pitched that I discovered just how important it is. Everything I read or saw seemed to indicate that the pouring of the wort would suffice. Lesson learned. I may take a reading this...

Wil kraussen fall after fermentation is done?

Thanks, BierMuncher. My first brew has been fermenting for a week and a half. After about 5 days, the minimal krausen that had developed (1/4" at its peak), fell. I took a reading, and the SG was around 1.050 (OG was 1.072). A few days later, the krausen is still pretty much non-existant. There...

Wil kraussen fall after fermentation is done?

Just to clarify (for me), when the krausen has fallen, does it mean that fermentation is done, or is at least, winding down?

    I think I underpitched

I brewed up an IPA last weekend, and the OG ended up on the high side, 1.072. I was shooting for 1.062 (at least that's what BeerSmith told me). Anyway, I didn't RDWHAHB. Instead of stopping and weighing my options, I pitched a single pack of US-05 (on the warm side, approx. 80 degrees, to...

    good unusaul hoppy beer suggestions

Do a Google search for an Arrogant Bastard clone. I've only had the original, but have come across a few recipes online. Brew 365 had an all-grain version that looked pretty interesting. I'm hoping to attempt an extract conversion in a few months, once I have a 3 or 4 brews under my belt.

Starting my first batch in a couple weeks

I just ran a few variations through Beer Smith, and came up with the this: Boil volume: 4 gal Boil-off volume: 3.53 gal Final volume: 5 gal 4 lbs Pale DME (60 mins) 3 lbs Pale DME @ 10 mins 0.5 lbs Carastan (steeped, added at start of boil) Hop schedule stays the same Here's what it spit out...

Starting my first batch in a couple weeks

Thanks all for the replies. Joos, I hope you're right! ajf, Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought about a late extract addition to up the IBU. The less dense wort allows better hop utilization, correct? If so, this might be exactly what I should try. Thanks also for the offer to run some...

Starting my first batch in a couple weeks

Picked an extract/steeped grains brew to start. The recipe I picked was the All Amarillo IPA, found on this site. I say picked, not following, as I pretty much had to substitute every ingredient. Here's what I devised (5 gallon batch): 7 lbs Pale DME 0.5 lbs Carastan 30-37L 1.5 oz...
