About to deploy need a brew that can sit till i get back.

The more time at room temperature, the better. Cold conditioning for 2 or 3 weeks, just before you come back, would be a good thing too, for clarity (even though it will probably be crystal clear after 5 months in bottle), and for carbonation. You want the CO2 to be in solution, and stay in...

    1st Biab attempt deemed succesful.

This explains your issue. After using the regular one for around 2years, I just got the larger one to transfer wort faster from kettle to fermenter. I must say that it is much harder to prime it, compared to the regular one. I had to make sure that: * the seal of the tubing over the siphon...

    Black freezer worth extra $60?

You need someone to disagree with everyone else here ... Me ! I did NOT use a spray paint, this may explain why I disagree with all the people above. I used rustoleum "painter's touch" paint, in colonial red. You have other colors available, including black. I simply used a cheap roller. Very...

ALL beers - extract AND all grain taste bad. Please help me with new suggestions

When I read your post, the first thing I thought was: do you like the hops taste/bitterness ? If you put too much hops, the taste can be overwhelming for some people.

    Filtering Out the Hops

I never tried, so I cannot tell you if it works or not, but make sure to boil the bag in order to sanitize it before putting it in your fermenter. Otherwise, you could use a paint strainer bag for your hops during the boil. This is what I do, and it works great.

cones and seeds on 1 plant

+1 You may want to remove the male flowers, otherwise you will get seeds in your cones.

About to deploy need a brew that can sit till i get back.

+1 Sometimes it is hard to let the beer age more than a couple of months. Since you will be gone 6months, it will not be a problem for you! The belgian grand cru from AHS is great. Since you will be gone a while, and probably come back thirsty, I would even brew more than one recipe.

    Help with gravity?

An hydrometer gives you an accurate reading at a temperature of 60F. You have some tables (usually supplied with your hydrometer) to know what the gravity is at a different temperature.

    First Keg

Correct. For more details, you can read the stickies about how to balance a keg system. Edit: the length is not the only criteria. The inner diameter of the beer line matters as well. All this is explained in the stickies.

    First Keg

OK so here is what is going on: you do not have enough beer line to balance the 12psi. As a result, the CO2 is going out of solution when you pour the beer. This is why, as a result, your beer taste flat. I would recommend getting longer lines (10ft of 3/16 should do it). I know I had to change...

    Holiday 5.0 Keezer Build... Finally!

Yes this freezer is great. From another thread, it looks like the hump is not as high as it used to, which gives you more room for the connections at the top. Just a piece of advice: if you put the taps on the front, make sure to use short shanks and/or place the shanks a little bit to the...

Kegs arriving in 2 days, need a plan

Just to comment on this: you can carbonate at room temperature with something around 30psi. You would not need to re-carb later. But it will take a week or two to reach the right amount of carbonation. Once the CO2 is in solution, it is not going anywhere :-) This can be useful if you do not...

Kegs arriving in 2 days, need a plan

Well, for some reason some people want to carb in a day or two by increasing the temperature. Even though it might work, it is the only way to overcarbonate your beer. So what I would recommend, is what works for me and a bunch of other people: * rack the beer to the keg * close, purge and...
