I totally agree. It's so easy to get ideas or get a few opinions on a beer. I enjoy going to the local club meetings but I learn way more reading Homebrew Talk.

Just so you know I've added the recipe pdf and beerxml for Touch of Summer. You can find it here. If you get a chance to make it please let me know what you think.

    Brewing Software for MAC

I'm also using BeerAlchemy and am really liking it. I'm looking forward to seeing what advances he has made with the full re-write to version 2.0. Also iBrewMaster is headed to the Mac and I believe he will have a demo at GABF. Hoping to check it out while I'm there as I really like his iOS app.

Denver (and surrounding areas): Beer/food/etc. suggestions needed!

+1 to Strange Brewing and Great Divide for local micros. Food: Head to Snooze for breakfast one of the mornings then over to Great Divide afterwards for a beer. Last year we had a great Beer Pairing dinner at Simms with Dogfish, this year they are doing it again with Stone. Haven't decided if...

Yeah I think we all get better when we learn from each other. There is so much knowledge on a forum like this that can help to craft great beers. I've met a couple of those protective brewers as well. I don't ever want someone to feel like I treated them that way. I think it's much better to...

Poll added. Great idea. I totally agree that no one comes up with a recipe 100% by themselves, except maybe SMASH recipes. If it wasn't for other people sharing I wouldn't have learned most of what I know now and I wouldn't be able to construct my own recipes.

I wonder how many people have that longterm aspiration to go pro and protect their recipes because of it. I know a couple local homebrewers that do. I think that attribution of original source is good that way people can see how things are changing and evolving.

My brew partner and I had a great back and forth this morning about the merits of sharing recipes vs keeping them proprietary. I think we've come up with a few really great beers but I also think it's important to share what we are doing so others can give us feedback and maybe even tweak them...

10 Gallons of Pumpkin Ale brewed up this weekend.

We brewed up our "Pumpkin" Ale this weekend. Not an ounce of actual pumpkin in it. We use roasted butternut squash instead of actual pumpkins. I find it to be a little bit sweeter and has a creamier texture to it. We also toss the squash and spices into the boil and move it to primary. What does...

Entered a beer at the County Fair

Congrats on the second place. Competitions are a great way to learn to brew better. Friends pat you on the back and tell you you're making good stuff, but judges can really give you some honest feedback.

    Kona Brewing Koko Brown Ale

What a great thread. We've been working on our own Coco Brown for a couple batches now and I think we've done a great job getting that liquid mounds bar beer. The story about the beer is here: http://powellavenuebrew.com/2011/08/daves-coco-brown/. A few suggestions after reading the thread...

Cigar City - Good Gourd Pumpkin Ale

Wow, wonder if they'll be pouring this at GABF. They were an awesome find for us last year with their Oatmeal Cookie Stout.

Headed to Santa Rosa/Guerneville later this week.

Depends where north you are going but heres a few more. HBG in Healdsburg usually has a brew from Healdsburg's nano brewery Healdsburg Beer Company. There is also Ruth McGowans in Cloverdale and of course depending how far north Ukiah & Mendo in Ukiah and Anderson Valley in Boonville. You can...

    Portland, OR brews

Hopworks Urban Brewery has a great ESB, it's also a great place to get dinner. It's one of my stops if I'm up there for only a short time. On a complete flip side, check out Cascade Barrel house. All sour ales but worth the taster fee.

why do friends think homebrew is FREE?

We keg almost everything and always let friends drink for free when they come by but we also have a tip jar on top of the cabinet that holds the beer glasses. So people see it when they grab a glass and fill up. We never say a word about putting money into it but when we check it there is always...

    Hello from California Wine Country

My wife and I have been home brewing for almost two years now and love it. We started with a couple of kits but now create our own all grain recipes. We even just purchased a grain mill so we have even more control over our beers. Can't wait to share and talk about all we are doing. We also have...
