Single Vessel Electric Build: 1.5 to 5 gallon batches

Got my chillzilla today: Anyone have tips for cleaning the outside? Never cleaned brass before. Got some nuts and washers yesterday. Wrong size though :( Ordered some new ones that should get here Monday (probably). Also got my multimeter, so I'll start some of the wiring and messing...

    Electric Wiring Help

I am using 1500W elements, never said I was using a 2000w Edit: Elaborating because that last post was from my phone... My plan is two use two 1500W elements on different breakers (one on each). Thanks for the comment!

Will it go flat without CO2 line?

What they said. Should stay carbonated. I'll add though... why disconnect the line? I've had mine connected for a month or two and haven't noticed a drop in the CO2 tank. If you're worried about it you could always disconnect it, come back a day later and hook it back up. If you hear gas...

Throw a SS casing around the chillzilla? You wouldn't see the coils that way, but you wouldn't see the copper either. Sheet metal is cheap, I don't know about sheet SS though

Help w/voting... best place to put chillzilla for flow arrangement

Probably, but it prevents wort from falling back down, granted it's a tiny amount. Plus vie already ordered the valves

    Electric Wiring Help

Would there be anything wrong with having using both breakers... i.e. The half with the heating element/march pump on a 20A GFCI plug and the other half with the heating element/BCS-460 on the 15A GFCI plug... with a common ground? Not sure if I'll do it that way, but good to know my options...

Help w/voting... best place to put chillzilla for flow arrangement

I'm going to put it valved after the pump. It should make it easier on the system that way. Thanks for all the feedback!

    Electric Wiring Help

You might have misunderstood what I meant, but maybe you didn't... everything inside my panel would be connected to the GFCI outlets in my panel. So the wires coming into the box (from the wall outlets) would go straight to the GFCI outlets inside the panel... and everything then connects to...

Single Vessel Electric Build: 1.5 to 5 gallon batches

Got some more of my equpiment today... Pictured is sort of how I will set it up. The wire basket is one of the shelves from the cart flipped upside down. Should protect the table from the heat (might throw some insulation in there and/or insulation around the pot. To the right is where the...

    Electric Wiring Help

Dang... just figured some stuff out about my kitchen, and it's not good. First some pictures: Note, this is an old building. It looks to be pretty heavy gauge stuff... but it does have a white casing. If I had to guess, I'd say this building was built in the 70s or 80s, but honestly, I have...

    Electric Wiring Help

I'm on my phone in the metro, but I definitely won't use a dimmer. The breaker is far enough away that it wouldn't be feasible, and I live in an apartment building so I probably can't switch out breakers myself without them getting pissy. Ive also already bought the heating elements and don't...

    Electric Wiring Help

Thanks for the help both of you! I edited my first post in case people come back, and I added some new questions. I understood the rest of your comment except this part. If I'm reading it right you mean if I DID have a GFCI outlet, I could plug a second GFCI cord/outlet to it?

    Electric Wiring Help

Hey everybody, I need some help with some pretty simple wiring questions. I'm using two 1500W Heating elements on two different 20A circuit breakers via non-GFCI outlets. Background/Assumptions: On outlet A, I'm hooking up one heating element and a march pump. Both probably won't be on at...

Help w/voting... best place to put chillzilla for flow arrangement

I understand the concern for the loc-line, but I was searching around and found this thread: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/loc-line-colors-181036/ Post #9 in there say they talked to the manufacturer and then to a chemist for it and the melting point is 340 degrees. After 170 degrees...

Man, those are some sweet pics. Don't get me wrong... the wood stand was great, but there is a nice allure to an all-metal rig.

Help w/voting... best place to put chillzilla for flow arrangement

Can Chillzilla's get it cooled down enough in one pass? If yes, what about out cold-tap water? I figured I might need to do multiple passes... hence the bypass. I'd just keep recirculating it until it's the right temperature and then move the loc-line to the fermenter. I'd also try and have...

Single Vessel Electric Build: 1.5 to 5 gallon batches

I don't know. They are made for water heaters and I got them from plumbing supply. http://www.plumbingsupply.com/elements.html EDIT: 1.5 gallon batches because I want to brew several batches in one day to tweak the ingredient amounts/timings/etc to "optimize" recipes. I live in an apartment...

    Chiller Idea!! Please Comment

I can't imagine it'd be that efficient. And you'd have to continually pack it with ice (and drain the melted ice) somewhere. You'd also need a pump to continuously operate. A freezer/fridge would be a much better option IMO.

Help w/voting... best place to put chillzilla for flow arrangement

I'm having trouble deciding where to put stuff around my march pump. As far as march pump performance goes... what's more important... tube resistance or gravity? Option A: In-line after pump (Flow always goes through the chillzilla) Option B: Valved after pump (Flow only goes through...
