☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Oh yeah, you're good to roast those. Proof will be in the cup but those should be just fine.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Well since I consider you all to be friends, I'm happy to share that my wife and I just adopted a baby boy. This is our first and has been in our minds a lot the last few years, so to see it come to fruition is very gratifying! Tying this into coffee... I'm actually surprised that despite...

Yep that's correct. For fruity coffees I usually drop around 13 to 15 percent. For more bodied chocolate coffees I usually go to 18 to 20 percent. Very personal though, and most people would tell you I roast too light (but people like it, so who knows).

I was going to try to get you a response but was on the road and didn't have a chance, then I forgot. Report back how you like those Bodhi beans though. Usually Sweet Marias runs a 20% off sale for Black Friday/Cyber Monday but I do not believe they did that this year.

Yup, doesn't suit my needs but I just cut open a small corner of the bag, then rolled it and clipped it shut.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Well I ordered my beans for my Christmas Blend, 20 lbs each of a top secret mixture. I opened the Sweet Maria's box and to my surprise saw the most intriguing bag I've ever seen, complete with instructions to read and a link to watch instructions. I kid you not. So I go to the link and watch...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

First crack usually starts around 7:20 - 8:00, I typically drop between 13 to 20 % development which tends to be around the 9 to 9:30 min mark I think.

Yeah please do share how it works out, if it works out. My chaff filter is the red bull size can you mentioned. I'm not sure how many roasts I've put through it off the top of my head, but it got to the point where I had to soap/scrub it every two pounds which was pretty annoying on days I...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I am strictly Aillio software. They have done a number of substantial upgrades and I'm really digging it now. I ordered a new chaff filter and put it in last week, it's making a huge difference. I don't know that a soak would have been enough for me; I should have tried it, but oh well. It...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

@TrickyDick I can tell you what I do, if it helps at all. I'm using a Bullet with the IBITs module, not sure if you have IBITs but if you do not then just ignore the following. Also I use Celsius. I do a 240C preheat for 30+ mins. I'll charge it with 1lb of beans, P6, F2, D9. At the 1:30...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I broke out the French press yesterday for some Kenyan, I half assed it because I was in a hurry and was doing other things, ended up doing a 7 min steep before plunging. Oops. It was delicious though! This was a Kenyan with spice and apple notes and the press really accentuated that. Today...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

There is an Aillio Facebook page with an insane amount of knowledge on it. I learned a lot from observing that page, so it may be worth checking out. A lot of pro roasters on there who understand roasting and have tips on modulating the roaster. I quit FB last year but I do miss that page...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Behmor Jake - yes, though its launch has been delayed about 8 times in the last two years. I don't think it's actually available yet. I have many thoughts on the roaster (and I'll say I absolutely loved my Behmor roaster, I love my Behmor brewer, and I like the company), but my main beef is...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

If anyone is in the market for a Bullet, I see Sweet Marias has them in stock. Or, if anyone needs a new Chaff Filter Basket for their Bullet, they FINALLY have those in stock for $20. I've been checking for about 6 months and no luck so that was a pleasant surprise. I have one on the way and...

@MaxStout I think you'd probably benefit from stretching the roast a little bit, especially in the Drying phase. For me, that means pulling back heat a little bit from about 1:30 - 4:00 into the roast. I then hit them with more heat when they lose their green shade and become more yellow...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

The outdoorsman in me wants to say part of the fun is in drinking not-so-great coffee, in the woods, on a cold morning, while hanging with your buds and joking about all the homebrews you threw back last night. The coffee enthusiast in me says f if I know. I made campfire coffee a few...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Well, to be honest, I learned a ton from reading this thread front to back. But that was also like 7 years ago so it was a little easier back then haha. Sweet Maria's has some great videos and writeups on their website, I would recommend starting there. Whatever you do, be patient and take...

Nothing better to set the tone for the day than a morning cup of coffee outside. Waylon Jennings on the Playlist this morning. Only thing I'm missing is a dammm donut.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I used to in the first few months after I got it, but eventually settled on one that worked well for every coffee I roasted. I have the brew temp set at 200 F, and the presoak set at 2:00.
