    Ultimate home brewery.

Use Google Translate. It's not a perfect translation but you can get the major points easily and if you work at it you can decipher the tech speak and humor. This was an interesting thread (the Norwegian one)about functionality and some minor mods that the OP is considering. I haven't waded...

    Ultimate home brewery.

No, I do not have either keggle insulated. I am using two 220V hockey stick submersion heaters. Once I have heated my sparge water I transfer them to the boil. I really do have plenty of power. I'm just impatient!

    Ultimate home brewery.

Currently I use 2 ea. 2500 watt elements in my brewery. 5000 watts to boil then maintain with 2500. They are more than enough for a 5 gallon batch and will do the job for a 10 gallon batch. I do find myself wishing for another 1000 watts to get 10 gallons up to boil.

    Ultimate home brewery.

That is exactly what you saw. The mash water is pumped up through the "grain cylinder" and heated with perimeter heaters. I have been eyeballing this for a while. I like the compact design. What I don't like is the fact that there is no sparge function. If you want to sparge you have to heat...

Cold weather question for the brewers up North.

This probably goes without saying, but I'd rather say it unnecessarily than have someone suffer the consequences... DO NOT RUN A PROPANE BURNER IN A CLOSED GARAGE!!!!! Cons: Steam's a bitch (fogged glasses) Boil takes longer Grains are colder so adjust mash in accordingly Nuts get...

    Is IPA really that popular?

Obviously I do not speak for everyone. I have come to love IPA and especially IIPA. This a fairly recent infatuation but a strong one. I cannot think of a style that I do not like. I can think of several brand specific brews that I would not drink again if paid, though not a single brewery...

Help me construct my Christmas List!!

science surplus Picked everything for a stirplate for under $10.00+ shipping. I would add the malt mill/barley crusher to my list. Best money I spent recently. Or a new/better burner. Or storage gear. I am constantly needing another container for grain or equipment.

    My Dad!

Did he Know it wasn't ready or that you hadn't popped the cherry yet? I agree in principle, the brewer's first but if my dad could drink a beer I had made I'd gladly let him have the first. Green or not.(He's diabetic and hasn't had a beer in 20 years.) BTW I always ask before mounting another...

Using finings in a stout ?

Just because it's dark doesn't mean it's not clear. The major question is this: Is clarity important to you? I add gelatin finnings to my stouts. I do see a difference and like mine clear. JMO, but it is a simple and relatively painless step that gives me the finished product that I am...

Official 2009 Pay it Forward Thread!

The tap handles have been claimed. Coca-Cola line is taken 15' of the 1/2" tubing is gone Looks like I'm a day late and a dollar short again! I have several of the plain black tap handles if any one needs them. I also have about 20' of coca-cola brand dispensing line and 70' of 1/2" id food...

Lifetime Waranty, who pays to ship?

Pol, Not to rub salt in your wounds, but you could have shipped it priority flat rate with the USPS for $10.35 BTW ask if they will reimburse shipping. The worst that will happen is they will tell you no.

    Barley Crusher issue...

Believe me. I would rather get three emails and able to help than to miss one and have an unsatisfied customer.

    Barley Crusher issue...

How did you contact them? I have a Barley Crusher and have had no problems with it so I cannot comment on their CS. I run a small web based home manufacturing/sales company and have had customers of mine tell me that they have tried several times to email and I have never received them...

Star San to Sanitize Brew Water?

Wouldn't Campden tablets be a better(?) product for this. I'm not saying StarSan won't work but sanitizing water is the original function of the Campden tabs, isn't it? You'd still have to make sure the concentration isn't high enough to stop fermentation...

    US Expectations of Beer

I was spoiled on BMC by my time in Europe with the military. I came to love the German Weizens and Guiness Stout along with Smithwick's and almost every variation from Stuttgarter. As to the American Craft Breweries,... My current favorites are: Southern Tier Allagash (although they are...

    Barley Crusher Question

I may be mistaken but I think the BC and Malt Mill are fairly close as far functional design. My BC is a good bit smaller than the Malt Mills that I have seen. I don't know if either come in different roller sizes.

    Barley Crusher problem

OK, this is just an off the wall possibility... Check the eccentric bushings and make sure that are set up to the same position. It is conceivable that if they were out of sync with each other (non driven roller not parallel) that the roller could bind. I have crushed upwards of 100lb. with my...

I want a grain mill.. any opinions on this one?

If you are really only going to be brewing once or twice a month I would highly recommend going with the BC and using the extra $ to upgrade something else or buy grain, hops... The Barley Crusher is a great value even if it isn't as grunt worthy(channel Tim Taylor here) as the Monster Mill.
