My dog eats hops and she love it!

Found this report! That's terrifying. 1-2oz hops took out a golden retriever in an hour! Nevermind my previous statement about it taking a lot, be careful with that stuff. I wonder if there is any difference between pre-boil and post-boil hops? This case is specifically for spent hops.

My dog eats hops and she love it!

My friends have a fig tree that produces thousands of fruits each year. But between bees, birds, and their 4 dogs, they never really get any figs to eat for themselves. I wouldn't induce vomiting unless a vet recommends it. From reading previous posts, it sounds like the dogs who got sick got...

My dog eats hops and she love it!

Hops have been thought to kill dogs in the past. I believe it's still unproven either way. Seems like a good tradition to stick to: don't let your dogs eat hops. edit: linky

    Sample beers -- all nasty

These guys are basically the craft beer distributor of the area. Each brewery is handled by only one distributor, so if you want Bell's or Lagunitas or Weyerbacher you must go through them. But their warehouse is temperature controlled and I've had tons of spectacular beer that came from them...

    Sample beers -- all nasty

We'll get some Sweetwaters, but we're not going to have a 420 tap. Everyone has a 420 tap around here, and the goal is to have an unusual variety for a small bar. Old Rasputin. Also have a Brother Thelonius that I'm afraid to open.

    Sample beers -- all nasty

My question is what kind of improper handling would cause this? Exposure to light would cause "light-struck" beer, which smells skunky, which this doesn't. Exposure to heat would cause diacetyl and rapid oxidation, butter and sherry tastes, but it doesn't taste like that either. It tastes...

    Sample beers -- all nasty

I know. The Bell's was the first one I drank, and it was also very different. Bell's was sour, it tasted like a flanders red, it was awesome. The next 7 or so bottles tasted like turpentine.

    Sample beers -- all nasty

oh yeah, I've had many of them before and I don't mean "yuck, I hate craft brew", I mean these specific bottles are bad. Also checked dates and they're all recent. I actually reported the bell's bottle to their quality control department, it tasted like an infection. Bell's Best Brown, Sour...

    Sample beers -- all nasty

I got a box of "sample" beers from a local distributor. The idea was to try them all and decide what beers to have on tap at our bar (I'm providing consulting for a friend). The selection we got consists of a bunch of big name commercial beers: Bell's, Dogfish Head, Samuel Smith's, North...

buttery-smelling foamy wort (no yeast yet)

no-chill is a valid method, and I see no reason it wouldn't work fine in a properly sanitized bucket. I would have used a blow-off tube into sanitizer instead of an airlock, though; you really could have gotten an infection through the open airlock, and a long blow-off tube won't allow the...

That's what I heard, but I'm pretty good at reversing marketing speech :cross:

    SodaStream for force carbonation?

My SWMBO desperately wants one of these. I was going to get her one for christmas, but reviews changed my mind. Apparently the CO2 cartridges have a proprietary connector, and they are very expensive, and the company is very bad about replacing them (they have a recycling program).

Interesting, Jim Koch made a video to answer my question on facebook

Eh, he didn't voice it well, but it makes sense to me. Not that it's the greatest thing in the world, but that it's their gold standard. You aren't just tasting the other beers in a vacuum, you're tasting them in relation to Boston Lager, because they think it's the most enjoyable of their...

Result of High.Temp Mash Question Help??

Actually, that's probably right. Mine was a partial mash, so all the DME would have fermented out. If I'm at 1.028 with only half of the wort sugars mashed high, 1.036 seems reasonable for the same thing but all-grain. I think yours is fine, and your lower expected FG just didn't account for...

Result of High.Temp Mash Question Help??

I made a stout 2 weeks ago. Mashed at 158F on purpose. Also added both maltodextrin and lactose to the boil. OG 1.075. Pitched Notty. Even with all of those unfermentables, I'm at 1.028 right now and still showing a little activity. Post your recipe, but I think it should be lower. That...

    water for partial boil brewing

What I've heard is city water is safe, well water should be sterilized. What I've done is used tons of water straight from the tap without boiling in all of my brews. (and I have city water).

Stupidest thing you ever did brew related

I've had good luck with homebrewing so far, but recently installed a professional direct draw 5-keg fridge at my friend's bar. I've never used a keg before in my life, but I read a lot before hand. I get all the lines cut and run, everything seems to be hooked up perfectly. I'm knelt down in...

    Floating fruit question

I don't know about cysers, but the two times I used fruit in beer it floated, molded, and tasted great :D (the beer, not the fruit...) I figured it was harmless, just don't stir it back in if it's molded.

    Changing State Malt Beverage Codes

Sent you a PM with info about the local beer scene that you probably already knew. For everyone else: This is a *big* fight in Georgia. We have corrupt politics, as usual, but ours are very, very religious. Our politicians get hired based on the churches they associate with. If you look at...
