Just an FYI, using a 2nd IC which is what you'd be doing in some fashion, is generally called a 'pre-chiller'. Should work well to reduce your times.

Just today I cut 1 side of the handles off some kegs and the fit nicely under the freezer compartment. I can post some pics tomorrow.

I would get a 'new' used minifridge and gut this one to build out the new one, you could get one for $50 off craigslist and will probably be more energy efficient than the old one. Just make sure you measure the new fridge before buying it so it's big enough.

You might want to grab a hydrometer too, so you'll know when fermentation is done. Otherwise sounds like a great deal.

Wow, very nice. I got 3 buckets, 6 carboys and wine kit and all kinds of little parts for $120 when I started brewing, and just found 2 co2 tanks today for $60 total. Takes lots of checking and a good bit of luck fur sure.

Even with electric in the basement you will need some decent ventilation for all of the moisture you will be generating in the boil. Unless it's a finished basement or you don't have any moisture problems at all currently

What is the temp of the pool, would it be 'greener' to just recirc the pool water and not use the hose?

3 inches sounds excessive to me. How did you chill? Mine generally clears a good bit while the IC is doing it's thing. Did you siphon or dump into your fermenter?

As long as they don't start to get dirty you won't have a problem with it, I wouldn't suggest sharing bottles with the old label though, I think it gives a bad impression.

Finding the right size fridge can be tricky. Most of them will give you a problem with either the hump in the back or the freezer section in the top. I added a collar on the front of mine held on with bungie cords. I didn't have to mess up the fridge in any way so I can always convert it back...

A while back I saw a post on northern brewer, where a guy brewed while camping, fire for heating, and stream for cooling.
