Some questions on a Heineken clone

I have a storage unit where the ambient temp stays between 50-60 (sometimes lower) this time of year, so I was going to take this opportunity to try my first lager. I have not use a liquid yeast, but I can definitely try (It doesn't seem too difficult, I'm just intimidated). I guess it's time to...

Gonna buy a Coopers. Opinions wanted

Thanks for the recipes, unionrdr! I think I may get the basic pack and use the lager can to make a variation of that Shandy, after that I'll stick to the better kits from NB or midwest.

Some questions on a Heineken clone

I don't know the difference between these grains, but I think I'll try it your way. I think I'll go with the Breiss Pilsen DME, unless someone can convince me to use Muntons Extra light. I'm still not ready to do liquid. Any suggestions for dry yeast? I got my Grolsch bottles ready to go.

Some questions on a Heineken clone

This is my wife's favorite beer, and it's been growing on me as well (going to the Heineken Experience in Amsterdam gave me a new appreciation for it). My first LHBS in Honolulu has a list of good-looking recipes (http://www.homebrewinparadise.com/BrewRecipes.aspx), including a Heineken one...

Gonna buy a Coopers. Opinions wanted

That's mighty tempting. I will take a look. I just don't want a heavy glass fermenter for these clumsy hands to break.

Gonna buy a Coopers. Opinions wanted

I mainly brew kits from NB or Midwest. My only experience with the hme cans were with the ones that came with my first fermenter. I hear mixed things about them, which is why I'm wondering if 4 cans of hme will be put to good use, and if the time spent brewing those instead of the brew shop kits...

Gonna buy a Coopers. Opinions wanted

I'm going to buy a Coopers fermenter soon (I really like them), and I'm trying to decide between the basic and bundle pack. The basic kit is 129.99, comes with all the equipment, and a can of Lager hme. The bundle os 199.99 and comes with 3 extra refills in addition to the Lager that's...

Used Mr. Beer to catch the bug now I want to move on.

Some people may poo-poo it, but I thoroughly love Cooper's 6 gallon fermenter: http://us.diybeer.com/category_s/1820.htm (Mr Beer sells it now, too: http://www.mrbeer.com/mrbeer-24l-beer-kit) It comes with a hydrometer and bottle wand, which is nice (and also a boatload of PET bottles, which...

    Yeast in bottle (pic)

I don't worry about it. It's normal. I get some bottles with almost nothing, and I get some with a fair amount. Either way a lot of it usually stays in the bottle, and even if it gets in the glass I drink it anyway.

    Post your infection

Okay. I feel kinda bad posting my newb "is this infected??" pics, but I gotta be sure. I'm pretty sure it's just yeast, I just never had this much floating around. Musta did something wrong. How does this happen? Any thoughts? It's Danstar Windsor Ale yeast in a Bourbon Barrel Porter, FYI.

Apartment heater broke - effects on beer?

Nearly 2 weeks ago I brewed a Bourbon Barrel Porter. Things mostly went well, and I got a lot of activity shortly after pitching the yeast. That subsided in a few days, and I let it be from then. Then the weather started getting colder and we all got a memo to keep our heaters on all the time...

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

My dad had an old Mr. Beer, so I used that to make 2.5 gallons, so I guess that's +2.5 28,156.5

Coffee mug broke in my wort

That makes me feel a lot better. Really. Thanks.

Coffee mug broke in my wort

Thanks for the advice. I figured it would be left in the trub, which I always dump anyway, but I might do a little extra filtering this time just to be safe.

Two Batches In - Need Some Help

Though this may not have enough of an impact to give you off-flavors, how much headspace are you leaving in your bottles? When I first started, I didn't use a bottle wand and just kind of eyed my bottles, and fearing bottle bombs, left quite a bit of headspace. I slowly started leave less and...

Coffee mug broke in my wort

Hello all. This is a story of my stupidity. I was brewing a new batch this morning, and everything was going normally. When I got to adding the LME, I add it as I always do (pour it out, then ladle some of the hot water into the LME container using a coffee mug, swish it around, pour, repeat)...

    Another overpitching question (sorry)

Cool. Sounds good. Hope it turns out well. I had a Wild Turkey Bourbon Barrel Stout at the Yardhouse once and loved it. If it's anywhere close to as good as that I will be happy.

    Another overpitching question (sorry)

Hello all. I decided to put this in the beginner section instead of fermentation, because I'm still a beginner in this aspect and am looking for peace of mind. I just got the Bourbon Barrel Porter kit from NB: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/bourbon-barrel-porter-extract-kit.html When...

    Wil Wheaton's w00tstout - Questions and concerns

Wow, really? While it sounds delicious, and I really want to try it, I don't know if I want 5 gallons of it (I definitely wouldn't be able to drink something this strong regularly). I think I may pass on brewing it and just keep a lookout for it at the liquor store.
