Alternatives to Worm Gear Hose Clamps?

This is all really helpful. I think I've been convinced that camlock fittings (with oetiker clamps) are in my future. I'll stick to the cheap non-perforated worm gear clamps for now, until I can save up to buy the camlock fittings... I might need to buy some this year and hold off till next year...

Alternatives to Worm Gear Hose Clamps?

Someone gave me one of those Herbie Clips for free, but I've never used it. Depending on my batch size, the top of my immersion chiller (where the clip attaches to the hose) may get immersed in wort, so I ideally I'd like something stainless that could withstand the heat. Nice. I was at Bobby's...

Alternatives to Worm Gear Hose Clamps?

I have the typical perforated worm gear hose clamps, similar to these, that I use for my pump hoses and chiller hoses. I don't like them. They rust, they warp out of shape, the gear doesn't grab well, and they chew marks into the silicone hoses when clamped tight. I am considering upgrading my...

Advice on how to enjoy homebrewing over the years without becoming an alcoholic.

I try to stick to the CDC guidelines of 1-2 drinks per day. I occasionally make exceptions for special occasions (e.g. birthday, family in town, etc.). If you have a spouse or housemate, or even a good friend that you keep in touch with regularly, ask them to keep you accountable. Express your...

    Another hopwater question

One step I would add to your simple method above is to acidify it somehow, to ensure it stays food safe. Most sources I read recommended it. It could be adding lemon/lime juice or just straight citric/lactic acid. Some people who tried it with and without yeast said there was a big difference...

    Keg gaskets

O-rings for the posts? My (semi-)LHBS has blue for beer and green for gas. The color differentiation has saved me multiple times...

    Equipment crossroads.

I switched from a propane keggle setup to an AIO, and have been very glad with the shift. Although it doesn't look as "cool", the simplicity lets me enjoy the brew day more and focus on the beer. I'd highly recommend it as a consideration.

Help Me Choose My Next Beer Glass

I ended up deciding to go with a smaller glass, so I can have one or two per night and fill it up. I was tired of so much empty space in my 16oz glasses. It holds 11oz to the brim, or 9oz with a head. It's technically a Glencairn whiskey glass I suppose, but it actually supports the head...

Sold Sankey Keg, Faucets, Shanks, Tap Handles, etc. (NJ)

It's metal with an exterior coating that feels like a dense rubber. I've never seen another one either, but the coating is nice. It softens the impact when placing it down, and it doesn't make the loud clanging sound when moving it around. But the interior, where the beer is, is all metal (I'm...

How much citric acid to reach 3.5 pH?

Thanks. Picked up my scale already. It ended up taking 2.6 grams of citric acid to get me to ~3.5. My pH strips only show 0.5 increments, but from what I read, I think that's good enough for food safety.

How much citric acid to reach 3.5 pH?

Thanks. Looks like I'll have to pick up a smaller scale that can measure fractions of a gram. I'll give it a shot this weekend.

How much citric acid to reach 3.5 pH?

Given that I used to have "Chemist" in my job title (many years ago!), I'm embarrassed to ask, but: I'm going to try making hop water for the first time. For food safety, I want to add citric acid to get the pH to around 3.5. I will be starting with my own unfiltered well water. How much...

Sankey keg (~15 gallon) with draft supplies as pictured. The keg is CLEAN. I took every piece apart and cleaned it thoroughly, and have since only used it for seltzer water. It is ready to use. Also included are three couplers, two faucets, two shanks, two tap handles, and some hose. One coupler...

    Grain storage

Has anyone tried storing grain in food grade plastic bags? They have some meant to fit 5gal buckets. I’d then twist tie the bags shut and put the bags in standard non-food grade buckets with standard non-air-tight lids.
