Vikings Blod inspired mead - Need advice

Any recommendations for yeast, I'd probably be OK temp wise since my basement is usually pretty steady but I'm definitely open to suggestions. I usually have a packet of Montrachet laying around for Edworts apfelwein.

Vikings Blod inspired mead - Need advice

So I tried my first mead while on vacation last week and due to the poor selection at our state run liquor stores here in PA. I want to start my own inspired by Vikings Blod. I've been brewing beer, ciders and wines for over 2 years but this will be my first batch of mead so I'm looking for...

    Opinions on Midwest's Hank's Hefeweizen

Just kegged my batch of Hank's Hefeweizen and its delicious. Got some nice banana notes on the front and a hint of spice on the finish. Very session-able beer, will definitely be making this one again.

    Game of thrones ale

I just ordered the AHS Ommegang Iron Throne Mini-mash Kit. Should be brewing it within the next few weeks. I'll post here with some pics and comments about it when its ready. Might take a while though, I've found the best results come from patience and I usually let my beer age 3 months...

Lavlin d47 instead of Montrachet in Apfelwein?

I got rhino farts the first time with Montrachet yeast. Now i use a yeast nurtient/engizer blend my LHBS sells called "Super Ferment" and don't have that problem. I also got Rhino farts from Red Star Pasteur Champagne yeast, Super ferment corrected that problem as well so I use it in every...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

This thread is crazy big now. I see a lot of people adding red yeast rice to the mix. What does this do for flavor / alcohol content?

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

Just wanted to say thanks to sonofgrok. Just harvested my rice wine and its delicious. Slightly sweet on the front end, tangy on the back end and you can definitely taste the alcohol. I got this from 4 cups of sushi rice. Right now its chilling in the kegerator, after i pastuerized it...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

Don't let that stop you from looking in the store anyway. I asked the people at lotus food about dried yeast balls and they just looked at me like I was retarded and said no. A few laps around the store and I found them. Not saying their racist but they sure aren't very helpful.

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

I don't believe you have to worry about light getting to this. That's usually for beer or anything hops are in as UV light can cause skunky beer. Maybe sonofgrok or someone who has more experience with rice wine can better answer that question. My rice wine is wrapped in a blanket and in the...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

I've read through the whole thread over the past few days and noticed there are a lot of people messing with their rice wine way to much. Set it and forget it until its time to rack your wine off the what's left of the rice. Every time you open your jars to smell, mix or whatever else your...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

Just put together my first attempt. The people at the asian market aren't very helpful but after the 3rd lap around the store I found what I needed. Can't wait for this to be done!

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

I looked up the type of plastic from the recycling symbol on the bottom. It's type 3 which is for non food use, worries me a little now that there's spices in there but I definitely won't be using it for the rice wine. Thanks.

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

Do you think using this type of jug would work. I was going to drill the lid and put an airlock on it. I don't have any glass jars large enough and since my girl is a chef I have plenty of these laying around.

    Blue Moon Clone Extract Recipe

Can you use fresh citrus zest instead of the bottled or dried varieties? Nevermind ... Accidently skipped past the second page of this post. In see the bloody knuckle wit. Think I'm gonna go that route.

    Oak chips for stout

How long did you soak the chips with your beer? I've been reading that chips impart flavor very quickly and shouldn't be done for more than a week.

    Regulator readings off when cold

I figured that might be normal but wasnt quite sure. I did find another issue with why my c02 is going so fast. The washer in between the regulator and the bottle has a chip in it. Thanks guys.

    Regulator readings off when cold

I think there's an issue with my regulator. The reading for how much gas is left in the tank changes when it gets cold it drops way down. I can take the bottle out of the kegerator and let it sit for an hour and it returns to normal. Is this normal?
