    Grainfather!!

Just go ahead and get it and don't look back. You won't be sorry, and your wife'll start talking to you again in a couple months anyway. You know women can't help it (talking). If you need another reason for impulsive behavior, look at it this way: $900 isn't a huge amount of money...

Did your alcohol tolerence change around 40?

That sounds like a nightmare although I'm sure it was great fun while it was going on. It's hard enough on me to sample 15 or so at the monthly club meeting. I've always wanted to go to the NHC or GABF, but I might be past my prime. Couple thousand bucks to go and drink a couple pints a day...

    Transitioning to kegging

It was either that or quit brewing in the winter. I'm getting old, fat, and lazy, and no longer willing to suffer for my beer. The GF has been so enjoyable to use, however, I don't think I'm going back to my propane, pumps, and pots. That's what I did re: the co2 tank too , but since I don't...

    Transitioning to kegging

I always just purchased the cheapest used fridge I could find for my last two kegerators and accessed the beer by opening the door. That said, I'm in the gradual process of building it out since hardware is so expensive and will eventually have taps on the front. The biggest joy so far is when I...

    Greetings from Germany

That's a beautiful area of the country. My dad was stationed in Karlsruhe when I was a baby and I've been back as an adult. I always find it interesting to meet a German homebrewer. With so many good beers available in your country it seems somehow unnecessary unless you just like the brewing...

    Recommendations for RO System

Thanks for the advice! Truth be told, I just put it there because it came with a set of replacement filters, and I didn't want to just throw it away. When it's exhausted, I'll throw it away and not replace it.

    Welcome to the joy!

    Recommendations for RO System

Here's the system I bought 16 years ago. Notice how I removed the two right-most housings and replaced them with an inline polishing stage. I kept the housings in case i ever want to revert to its original configuration. These are all standardized parts and replacement filters. I replaced some...

    Recommendations for RO System

Im not trying to steer you towards this particular company--just relating my experience. I bought a 5 stage system around the year 2000 from spectrapure.com when I had a reef aquarium, and it is still going strong 16 years later. I've since removed the last two stages (deionization filters)...

    Greetings from Germany

Did your alcohol tolerence change around 40?

Puttin' this on the bucket list.

Did your alcohol tolerence change around 40?

Phew. This thread was a comforting read. 46 here, and I was worried that I was losing my youthful stamina. I'm glad you all have verified that I am indeed, and that it's completely normal. I'm good with a couple pints a night and 3-4 on a weekend night. More than that and the next day isn't near...

    First World Hombrewer Problems

This is probably why I don't have many friends anymore. I give beer freely when I'm with people, but the impending old fart in me finds unexpected and/or constant company tiring as does the wife. Plus I have teenage daughters I'm guarding. Where's that shotgun?

    First World Hombrewer Problems

I feel ya. 40 gals disappearing at the snail's pace of 1-2 pints /day. Going to brew another five of Irish Ale in a couple weeks for St Patty. Unfortunately, when you're pushing 50, you don't have the friends like you used to. And the ones you do have don't drink like they used to :( That should...

Show us your upright refrigerator "Kegerator" conversion.

Morebeer had the manifold as their deal-of-the-day last week so I picked one up and started converting a fridge to a kegerator. Using picnic taps right now until I can save up enough to buy four faucets.

Leaving wort over night before boiling

I would think it would, as far as spoilage organisms go. Boiling won't remove any sourness however. Again, I've never let it get to that point, but some people do kettle-sours and sour mashes.

Leaving wort over night before boiling

I've done it overnight to split my brew day, and I've read on here that several others have as well. Keep in mind however that wort is unpreseved, fresh "food," and the longer you let it sit out, the greater the chance of souring/spoiling. I've also let my mash sit overnight successfully without...

Psi in keg keeps dropping down

I'm also wondering about the adjustment screw on the regulator. Supposedly there's a rubber diaphragm underneath that regulates the pressure. I've seen replacements available for sale, so they presumably need replacing for one reason or the other. Maybe that's the cause of your inability to hold...

    Indoor propane

Tell me about it. I'm having my furnace replaced today to the tune of $7200.00 after discovering two weeks ago that it was blowing carbon monoxide throughout the house due to the problem you mention. Awoken early in the morning with the detectors going off. I would hate to think what would have...

Psi in keg keeps dropping down

I don't think you want to hear any hissing from your disconnect. That sounds like a leak to me. Try changing your o-ring on the keg post and put a little waterproof grease on it. That might solve the problem.
