Accelerated barrel aging using heavy metal music

I don't see why this wouldn't work, though it's not clear how fast it would speed things up. Traditional whiskey makers use barrel houses to age their whiskey; the change in seasons, and the resulting temperature of the whiskey in the barrel, causes the whiskey to move in and out of the barrel...

    Big mouth bubbler closed transfer!

I don't prop the fermenter up a few inches--I stick a shim under the spigot side that raises it maybe 5/8". But then, I'm not using 8 ounces in dry hopping! The thing you'll have to address is that if you do tilt the BMB back that much, you'll end up losing a fair amount of beer. I don't get...

    That German Lager taste

The key is to get the O2 out of the water. Whatever works. I don't find the preboil method to be particularly difficult. I put on the electric element, do other setup chores, when it is boiling for 5 minutes I chill through my counterflow chiller down to around 150 (I use a RIMS to set final...

    That German Lager taste

I noticed no difference in the taste, dosing two side-by-side otherwise identical batches. I did triangle tests with my homebrew group, imploring them to not eat or drink prior to tasting, and using a random assignment of the cups. Just no difference noted at all between the batches. But...

    Labeling Silicone Hoses?

Before I labeled them, I always, eventually, got the right ones here and there. In my setup, there's just enough ambiguity that it takes a little fiddling, and I'm all about doing everything I can to make things easy and quick. I like it when things are optimal. :)

    Labeling Silicone Hoses?

I think it's fabulous that you offer up your expertise without so much as a scintilla of evidence that you're qualified to do so. And if you think a sharpie, whose vehicle for the "ink" evaporates almost immediately, is a major (or even a tiny) health threat, then you go ahead and continue to...

    Labeling Silicone Hoses?

I use a sharpie because once the vehicle in which the black ink is suspended is dry, it's DRY. There's nothing to seep through the silicone. It's not liquid, it's dry. If you're truly concerned that dry sharpie marker can somehow seep through silicone hose and contaminate your beer, then...

    Labeling Silicone Hoses?

I chose to go a different route. I'm writing the hose labels on the silicone hoses themselves, and I'm setting it so each hose has a specific hook--labeled--to hang on. The sharpie writing on the silicone hoses has to be refreshed from time to time, but it's worked fairly well for me.
