    making beer with coffee

I experimented with a coffee stout using half a lb of whole beans like steeping grains in the boil, and adding a 2 quarts (mad with half a lb of grounds) of cool brewed coffee to the fermenter with the wort on brew day and I got a profound coffee flavor. That was for a 10 gallon extract batch...

    BIAB with a Keggle

I did a four-five gallon batch (meant to be 5 but I underestimated absorption/evaporation, and then didn't bother to add top-off water to the fermenter) BIAB in my 15.5 gal keggle with no issues. I use a propane burner that used to be for making big batches of tomato sauce. I did make a wind...

    All Grain "Partial Batch" BIAB-ing?

Hmm, if it was only one or two I was going to suggest alternatives, but the combinations of those limitations have stumped me. My only thought is to use less water in the mash, add it back for the boil, and rig a pulley system for the 14 lbs of wet grain (which really is surprisingly heavy, but...

    Thank you HBT!

This board has been invaluable to my beginning and growth as a homebrewer. I've been a member for 10 months (lurked a bit before that) and only have only made 5 posts because EVERY single time I had a question or issue, I found the answer/solution by using the search function. From gear to...

    All Grain "Partial Batch" BIAB-ing?

Are you considering this because of the weight being a lifting issue, a bag strength issue, or a space in your kettle issue?

    All Grain Equipment

I was doing extract for while and moved to BIAB as the next step. It was a relatively inexpensive (about $100) and easy transition, plus the beer came out great! I already had the big ticket items like propane burner and keg (which I cut the top off of) though.

    Brewpubs and such in NYC

I strongly second DBGB. As far as beer spots go I also really like Jimmy's No. 43 (good selection and has a little history behind the space) and Little Town NYC (they serve only in state brewed beer I believe). I don't know why I can't think of more off the top of my head. I'll have to ask my...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Thank you very much. Funny you mention long term, even at this stage I can tell I'm going to be hooked on home brewing and itching to upgrade in the not so distant future. My concern is actually for my father and brother who have rather sensitive digestive systems. I'll probably just make...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I've been lurking on here for about a week and I have a couple of questions. I started my very first batch with MrB and the WCPA. I just hit the 14 day mark and I'm ready to bottle. 1) I plan to pick up some dextrose. Where can I find the appropriate amount to add to the bottles (1L...
