So I've got two brews under my belt. The first was a pale ale that came out kind of tangy, sweet, and almost cidery. I'm guessing it was mostly because the fermentation temperature was between 70-76. My second batch was a pumpkin beer and it tastes a bit better but there's still a tangy off...
I'm going to be making this as soon as my yeast gets here. I'm only doing a one gallon test batch and I won't be using extra sugar (mainly because it will be a PITA scaling and measuring). I don't have a bottling bucket so will it be OK bottling right from the fermenter? The only downside I can...
Thanks for the advice. Going forward I'll be fermenting my beers for about 4 weeks before bottling and let them condition longer. Now that fall has settled in I don't think I'll have much of a temperature issue. There were a few days where the temperature one day was 80 out then the next was...
The priming sugar was adding to the wort at the start of boil with the malt extract. That was what the instructions with the kit said. The only sugar added to the bottles was fermenters favorite Fizz Drops.
My first brew was a kit from Northern Brewer called Vandal Eyes. It was a one gallon kit and it fermented for 2 weeks then I bottled it and tried it after a week and a half. The carbonation is decent but the beer has a funky sweet/cidery taste to it. Could this be from an infection? I fermented...
I'm looking at the recipe https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=14860 for making apfelwein. My question when I bottle this could I add "Fermenter's Favorite Fizz Drops" (basically just sugar) to carbonate? I have some extra from a couple beer kits. Just making sure I don't make some...
I'm looking at the BeerSmith app for Android and I'm wondering if there is a feature to make adjustments to recipes like changing the volume of the batch. Does the app support this? For example if I change just the batch size will it automatically adjust the amounts for malt extract and hops?
I brewed a pumpkin beer night. It's been rather unseasonably hot the past week and fermentation began very quickly. The temp of the fermenter when I checked this morning was about 76. I moved the fermenter into a swamp cooler and I have it down to 69 now. Does the krausen look normal? It looks a...
I'm relatively new to brewing. I have brewed a one gallon batch which seems to have turned out okay. It's bottle conditioning now. I was disappointed by the small yield that I got from it so I'll probably moving up soon. I have limited space and only enough room for a 3 gallon carboy.
My...
