    PLEASE HELP!! priming sugar

Thanks for the replies. I went with 3/4 cup corn sugar in about 1 3/4 water. Boiled for about 1 1/2 minutes. In regards to the priming sugar solution... is it important to wait for it to cool before pouring it into the bottling bucket and then adding the beer? It seems to me that if...

    Sanitizing Bottles

Thanks again for the replies... I ended up scrubbing the bottles with a bottle brush in a sink full of warm water (no soap). Then they went into a sanitizing solution to soak. I basically filled a bottle up, covered the mouth of the bottle with my hand, and shook it vigorously to ensure the...

    PLEASE HELP!! priming sugar

It seems the consensus is to use 3/4 cup of sugar (corn sugar)? for a 5 gallon batch, but how much water should we use to boil the 3/4 cup of sugar? My last kit recipe stated to boil 5oz of priming sugar in 2 cups of water for 2 minutes. The recipe I'm working on now, just says to boil the...

    Sanitizing Bottles

kapbrew13, Yes. I was referring to sanitizing the bottles, let ting them dry, then filling them... But if it is perfectly acceptable to fill wet sanitized bottles, then that is what I'll do as it eliminates the time waiting for the bottles to dry. Thanks for the reply.

    Cooling the wort

Wow, I am amazed at the response my post has received. Glad to see this forum is active with so many helpful members! Thank you all for your responses. We ended up doing a standard ice bath for the batch we made on Sunday, but I've thought about picking up an immersion wort chiller...

    Cooling the wort

Instead of immersing my brew pot of 2 gallons of hot wort into a sink full of ice to cool, can I instead poor 3 gallons of refrigerated bottled water into my primary fermentor and add the hot wort to cool? Will this bring my wort down to a cool enough temperature to pitch my yeast? It would be...

    Adjusting a recipe

I have a recipe that calls for the following specialty grain: 1 .lb of Crystal 10L My local home brew store only had the following: 1 .lb of Crushed Crystal Malt Lovibond 60 The clerk told me that I should be able to use the Crushed Crystal Malt 60L, but that I should just use less of it...
