I use the same set up and cooling has not been an issue for me for years. I had the same HF pump for the first year, but had to replace it cause I kept breaking off the barbed nipple. Be careful with that part because it is weak.
One other option that I do is to make my own ice in bulk. I...
Keep in mind too, that in your first design, you will only siphon to the very top of the fitting. Like was said before, as soon as you suck air, your siphon is over.
Your water department is better than mine. All I could get was total hardness. They said that they didn't have the exact Ca and Mg numbers when I called them three times. My water company said they only test for contaminants, and the minerals are not considered contaminants. On the up side for...
I just got my water report back from Ward Laboratories. For $16.50 they will give you the homebrewers report that will tell you all of the pertinent ions. I sent off my sample and got my report in less than a week via email.
I found someone with 7 Perlick 410xtf's for sale on CL. I cant seem to locate any detailed info on them. Does anybody know if these are forward sealing, and/or are they worth getting?
Thanks
In Beersmith, are you looking at the brewhouse efficiency or the efficiency into the boiler? BobbyM. has a good write up on the differences at his website. I confused the two in Beersmith myself and thought I was getting efficiencies in the 60's, when I was actually in the 70's.
Another Arizona boy here and after dealing with 90 deg. tap water at 9:00 at night, I decided to try Edworts system and couldn't be happier. After I get my wort down into the lower 100's, I hook up my IC to a bucket with ice water and pump it using a cheap Harbor Freight pond pump. I...
I am surprised that your local Home Depot doesn't have them. They are in the garden tool section here. I have no experience with the rectangular ones though sorry.
Yes. The racking arm is up during fermenting and is covered by the wort. When you rack off your beer it gets adjusted based upon the depth of the cake at the bottom. I have not noticed an excess of beer loss in my 14 gal over my 7 gal. conicle
It's fine. I do it frequently. All the CO2 that gets produced pushes the O2 out. You dont ever need to open the conicle unless your doing an addition as you pull samples from the racking arm and drain from the bottom.
I brewed this as a partial and thought it was terrible when it was green. I actually thought it might have been infected. A week later though it was a whole different beer. Give it some time and see if it changes. I'm gonna try it AG again in a few weeks!
