Separation in new pitched wort and clumps

So it has been a month and the beer tastes great! I just legged it but then took a gravity reading, it says it is at 1.025... my OG was 1.046 (calculating in the dilution of my .75 gallons of water). This ends up at being a 2.75 ABV. I do think there were a ton of infermentable sugars due to a...

Separation in new pitched wort and clumps

Could be. There was a moment where the grain got stuck and there was a lot of temp increase.

Awesome thanks! Any advice on darker color wort?

Separation in new pitched wort and clumps

Interesting, so okay that is good to know! I just tried out my robobrew and had some issues with the straining, long story short it made the mash process and getting the strained wort into the kettle and back into the robobrew a hassle. Also, after boil I chilled pretty quickly to 70 F (like...

    BIAB Electric Systems

Ended up getting a Robobree v3 for the price. First brew went okay but had some issues with the draining. They have a top straining plate that you place on top of the mash during rest and it ended up just pancaking the grain together and pretty much just stopping any flow through. I am going to...

Separation in new pitched wort and clumps

Hello all, I just attempted my first BIAB all grain batch and shortly after I pitched my yeast I came back and saw that there is something weird going on. I posted a photo because I don’t know how to explain this. What is this?

    BIAB Electric Systems

Looks like a good one. Might end up going with the 240V version for a better boil

    BIAB Electric Systems

Hey all, due to space limitations I am considering moving over to a BIAB system vs a all grain multi cooler setup I currently have. Just looking for recommendations, I have been following the guys at claw hammer supply and their 120v system looks pretty cool. Also, I am at 7,000 ft altitude in...

    Blonde Ale The Crowd Pleaser

Did you use 5% dextrose for lower nitrogen (FAN)?

Specific gravity going back up after primary ferment

I know I have heard this a lot. It’s just hard when it’s your first batch. I want to try it all the time and over think it

Specific gravity going back up after primary ferment

so I am creating a pale ale and I have a 5 gallon batch that I put into primary fermentation about a week ago and about 5 days after I noticed the gravity was at a solid 1.008, so I racked out and put into a glass carboy for aging. When I tasted it during this time, it had a really solvent-like...

Experiment for Secondary vs Only Primary

Okay so say I start fermentation of 5 gallons of wort in a 6 gallon carboy. I would then rack half of it to another carboy, lets say a 3 gallon one. This would leave 2.5 gallons left in the 6 gallon (3.5 gallons volume of head). Is this much head space going to affect the beer?

Experiment for Secondary vs Only Primary

Hey all, I am wanting to conduct a little experiment to see the differences between letting the beer sit in primary fermentation until bottling/kegging and racking to a second tank/vessel. I was going to attempt to do this with a 5 gallon batch but was wondering if I should do two separate 5...

    Calculate Alcohol after adding puree

I added around 3lbs of apricot puree to a new carboy and put roughly half of my 4.5 gallon batch of beer into that carboy. How could I calculate the alc for this? Thanks!
