    Hops in South Carolina

I do enjoy the southern growl. Nice place, great beer. The harvest this year is a whopping 0oz. Maybe next year.

    Hops in South

First year in sc... My NY wild hops took off like a champ. 30+feet, side arms... No cones. The sterling, liberty, cascade, Willamette, and Chinook.... Not so much. The cascade and Chinook died before they sprouted, Willamette is about 4 ft high. Liberty is maybe 10 feet tall, sterling died...

So...You Want to Breed Your Own Hops.

I'm from Whidbey! My parents still are in Coupeville. I have been trying to get them to grow hops for years now. As far as what variety, pretty much any hop should be fine. The PNW is a great place for hops. I know the C hops do well, but really you should be fine with any variety...

    Hops in South Carolina

I just moved to Greer and I am looking into home brew clubs. A couple of guys I work with are getting into brewing, so that gives me hope. Any clubs out there I can join? I am also trying to grow some wild hops I found in upstate NY with help from guys on this thread...

    hops dangerous to livestock?

My parents have a little farm in WA and I'm trying to get them to grow hops to sell to local brewers/homebrewers. But they have a bunch of pigs and are looking into cattle and have heard that hops are dangerous to livestock. I know dogs can't have them, but what about pigs and cows...

    Fall rhizomes

From everything I have read/been told, you can just plant them and they will winter just fine.

So...You Want to Breed Your Own Hops.

Thanks! I partially did some of these things intuitively. I planted most of them in a pot and put a couple in the fridge (clean), but the ones in the fridge don't have little nubbins for growth. So I will carefully dig up the potted ones and then put them in the fridge after a nice cleaning. If...

So...You Want to Breed Your Own Hops.

I came across some wild female plants, and since I won't be living in the same state next spring I puked some rhizomes. .. But my question, and I'm asking here rather than some other thread because I really respect the opinions of you guys/gals, is can I just plant them on a pot and leave them...

Oh, I know. But I want them both... I will have my cake and eat it too.

So...You Want to Breed Your Own Hops.

I agree completely, and I have been searching for wildlings for a few years. I found one, but it didn't transplant all that well. Currently waiting on some new cuttings to root... But I think the grown from seed avenue is way cooler than 'I found this little guy struggling for life out on the...

A brew machine for a submarine

ELT1 (SS,CIV) from the USS Jacksonville (ssn699) I wish we had a boat beer. I heard of other boats getting a barrel of JD or something along those lines... But the lady J was always concerned with promoting a non intoxicated sailor image.. Honestly, I think farming it out to a local brewer...

So...You Want to Breed Your Own Hops.

I was basing my growing on all the other plants and flowers I have grown where germination is pretty high so I was only planting a few... and I wasn't doing a cold stratification... so essentially I was going about it all wrong. So that's fun. I do plan on following the steps you guys have...
