thanks for the info! I've been using tap water but I'll buy some spring water for next time. I'm thinking I'll tone down the C02 to maybe 25-30 PSI and tone up the sweetness a bit as well. I was hoping to have a small-scale soda operation to do in my spare time to sell at my father's tavern, but...
I'm using tap water! The mix pre-carbonation is delicious but it's after the carbonation that it has a foul tanginess that throws the whole thing off. Maybe lower the PSI and let it sit a little longer rather than shaking it? I'll try some spring water next time and see if that makes a...
hey guys, I recently purchased a carbonator cap as well as a full 5# food-grade C02 tank. It works like a charm - although I've been getting a weird taste in the sodas I've been trying to produce (root beer and cream soda). The pre-carbed soda tastes great, but after it's been carbonated it...
Masterjuggler, I have been having a similar problem. There is something in the recipe that does not taste like the commercialized root beer I was hoping for. Sarsaparilla and Sassafras both smell so good, and even my house smells wonderful after, but my brew has a type of funk that just turns me...
thanks for the input guys! I was originally interested in the 5L mini kegs where as I've read elsewhere that people have used them for root beer, but I can't really seem to find any set up or instructions on how to force carbonate them (the charged cartidges are for serving an already carbed keg...
hey guys. I've been making my own batches of root beer with bottle conditioning and I can't seem to get used to the yeasty flavor it produced (even if it's subtle). I was hoping to start force carbonating but really don't know a whole lot about corny kegs, specific parts, diameters of tubing...
That was my main worry, although I did read that if it's labelled "Certified Pure Organic" that it is also another term for food grade. I figured that if it's safe to directly enter the bloodstream via the skin and inhalation, that a couple drops per gallon wouldn't really have much effect
I also figured it was okay! I'm hoping to hear from someone who has also used Wintergreen Essential Oil in their recipe which wasn't labelled "food grade"
hey all, I've recently ran out of wintergreen leaves for my home-brewed root beer. I recently bought Veriditas 100% Pure Organic Wintergreen Oil from my local food-co op. I have read that Wintergreen Essential Oils are unsafe to use in cooking unless it specifically reads "food grade". This...
