Thanks Maylar. Would you happen to have a link to that thread?

    Stopping fermentation in kegerator

Hey all, I just got a kegging system set up and am about to test it with a cider. Since I'm not bottling I wanted to try to package it a bit on the sweeter side (maybe 1.010, depending on taste). I've looked through lots of threads over the last week and havn't found a clear answer to my...

    Help with an IRA recipe

Hey everyone, I recently had my first "Red IPA" / IRA (the only one i've ever seen at any liqour store around here), and was absolutely blown away by the malt profile of it. Generally I'm not a fan of malty IPAs, and much prefer a light, clean malt profile that doesn't get in the way of the...

    White Fir Needle Pale Ale

Hey all, So I decided - in light of the approaching holiday season - to do a little experimentation with throwing a little bit of "Christmas" into a regular, easy to drink pale ale. I'm only brewing one gallon, using this recipe...

    First dry-hop attempt, 1 gallon

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll let it ferment / clear up 2 weeks in primary, add the hops in a boiled muslin bag for one week, and then bottle after 3. If I put the whole hops in the bag with some marbles, will I still have to put anything over my auto siphon inlet? Or will the bag contain the...

    First dry-hop attempt, 1 gallon

Hey guys, I just brewed a Black IPA (1 gallon) and I will be dry-hopping it (my first attempt at dry-hopping), and I have a couple of questions about it. 1) I will be dry-hopping in primary (no secondary), and the recipe says to dry-hop at 7 days... most people say to dry-hop after atleast...

    Everything Brooklyn Brewshop

If you want OG and FG readings for the BBS recipes, just send them an email and ask. They usually respond fairly quickly and have no problem giving OG / FGs, they just didn't include them in the book in an attempt to "keep it simple"

    Everything Brooklyn Brewshop

The IPA and Grapefruit Honey didn't have a plasticy flavour, just the Peach Cobbler. I know chlorine is usually the culprit, but i use bottled water for my brewing and use star san with distilled water for my sanitizer... I made the peach cobbler ale the same way I made the other two, but for...

    Everything Brooklyn Brewshop

I've brewed a couple of their beers so far. The first was their IPA kit, and having enjoyed myself with that, i got their book and brewed both their Grapefruit Honey Ale and Peach Cobbler Ale as my second and third brews. I havn't had awesome luck with my brews so far... Both the IPA and...

Will incandescent light adversly affect brew?

They weren't in a cardboard box bottle conditioning, just out on a table (in the dark, regularly), bottled in dark amber bottles. The Porter is in a clear glass fermenter... But yeah i'm not TOO worried about it, I read a lot of things saying 8 hours in fluorescent light is equal to 1 minute in...

Will incandescent light adversly affect brew?

Hey all, I have 1 gallon of honey porter fermenting and a peach cobbler ale bottle conditioning in my normally pitch black furnace room... However, today i walked in to have a look at it, and i realized I had left the light (just one, "soft" incandescent light) on in there since the last time...

Suggestions for a Honey Porter and Blonde Ale

For the Grapefruit Honey I emailed BBS to ask what their target OG and FG readings should be for that recipe (for some reason they don't include them in the book to "keep it simple"), and they told me OG of 1.052 and FG of 1.013, I ended up with a OG of 1.056 (may have used slightly more grain...

Suggestions for a Honey Porter and Blonde Ale

Also about the Nottingham ale yeast... I have never used a yeast so far that I've had to hydrate before pitching, i've always just pitched directly into the fermenter and shook. How exactly do I go about doing this? It gives kinda crappy instructions on the back of the packet, so some help from...

Suggestions for a Honey Porter and Blonde Ale

Thanks a lot! I think I will pretty much stick to your suggestion for the Honey Porter. As for the blonde, I looked up Biermuncher's recipe, which says: 0.25 oz Centennial [9.50%] (55 min) 0.25 oz Centennial [9.50%] (35 min) 0.25 oz Cascade [7.80%] (20 min) 0.25 oz Cascade [7.80%] (5...

Suggestions for a Honey Porter and Blonde Ale

Hello everyone, So I'm about to start on my 4th and 5th one gallon batches. My first batch was BBS's Everyday IPA kit, and my second and third were a Honey Grapefruit Ale and Peach Cobbler Ale, which I got the recipes for out of Brooklyn Brew Shop's "Beer Making Book", and then just purchased...
