    Decorating Corneys

Those look awesome, numbering them, perhaps on the top lip even, shouldn't be too tricky :D

This is how big your Mash Tun needs to be

I was inspired by that image and catalyzed by its absence, so i made this google spreadsheet. It's rather customizable. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmGsOePpypKmdFRVR1J5YzBQUXM3Nk5ncE96eUtxQVE#gid=0 I brought it up here for discussion...

Weevils in Grain, response from AustinHomeBrew

Indianmeal Moths? those things are terrible. I had a breakout of those in one house... followed us to the next apartment even though we didn't bring food. They were hiding in a stack of sealed tortillas or something... they were under the food bits in the bag ... and invisible unless you looked...

    Another Mash tun Size question?

Yeah. That's one way. I just upped my strike water temp so it'd be correct after including heating the tun.

    Another Mash tun Size question?

The headspace shouldn't hurt you with /retention/ as much as you'll have to heat the air in that headspace initially... calibrating your strike temp to compensate for that headspace at varying batch sizes could be tricky.

MLT Size Spreadsheet / Can I mash it / What tun should I get?

Oops, right, i got that backwards. I have tun X, what can I mash? :D

    Unusually low efficiency

So... what's your fermentation SG's looking like? are they in nominal range?

MLT Size Spreadsheet / Can I mash it / What tun should I get?

This one came up in my research, but doesn't really answer the question of "my recipe says X pounds of grain, what size tun do i need.", just the inverse. For what it's worth, i think i borrowed the algorithm used there for my calculations. :D

    Another Mash tun Size question?

... is a good cooler. very good. Any cooler that claims "Ice for 5+ days" is good enough for a tun.

    Another Mash tun Size question?

Mashing twice would potentially add even more than an hour and needs special consideration as to planning: do you drain into your brew kettle? if so, how are you heating the strike/sparge water for your second mash? Another consideration is gear in general: would two 40qt tuns suit you better...

    Unusually low efficiency

I'd bet money on your crush being problematic, or perhaps you didn't get your strike water fully dispersed into your grains. 152F is a great temp for mashing, but your thermometer might not be accurate... if you actually mashed at 136F it'd be a problem. Your sparge setup seems fine and...

MLT Size Spreadsheet / Can I mash it / What tun should I get?

After enjoying the 5/10/13/15.5 gallon gif that was in the thread: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/how-big-your-mash-tun-needs-123585/ and seeing that the main image got lost and later attached 20 pages deep...

    Another Mash tun Size question?

a 40 qt tun is theoretically maxxed at 1.070 at 80% efficiency and 10 gallons. a 52 qt tun is maxxed at 1.092. I doubt either of those would work for most barleywine recipes. It depends on your recipe. You can always mash twice, then your 40qt would get you to 1.140 at 10 gallons. Of...

    Help with 12v DC Power

Do you really need SSR's? I bought a tube of 25A 250VAC mechanical relays for pretty cheap off digikey... (like 1$ a piece or so).

    Decorating Corneys

Yeah, my main concern was not to identify the beer inside the keg, but to show ownership and a unique identifier for the keg. The former just incase my corney ended up at a different location where there might be other corneys, and the latter for the purposes of beer tracking via log.
