    So who's brewing this weekend?

Back in the game after a bit of a layoff due to a move. 3 gallon partial mash, centennial IIPA.

    Using hop bags.

I have been thinking about experimenting w/ a hop bag lately wondering if it could be better than my usual technique. Currently I use a funnel w/ a strainer insert when transferring to primary and end up w/ minimal to no hop debris after fermentiation. Anybody here have experience w/ both?

    When to pick?

Nice thread as I have the same question. I've got 3 first year plants (Cascade, Magnum, Chinook) and all but the Cascade put out single burrs quite awhile ago and they seem to be full size now but not "papery" (I'm new so don't have anything to experience here) feeling with a pronounced aroma...

    Beer in the morning?

Vacation days usually start w/ a spicy bloody mary while cooking breakfast and my bloody mary recipe includes an IPA back. That reminds me....I need a vacation.

    Concert IPA

I'm definitely a hop head so 98 sounds pretty good IMO. I ran this through beer tools and came up w/ similar numbers so this seems like the route to go. Thanks for the input. Being a live music junkie, having fun will be no problem. :rockin: Thanks again,

    Concert IPA

Headed to a concert in about 6 weeks and I need to brew some show beer. I like to keep things simple and this is the recipe draft. Any thoughts? 1 lbs. American Caramel 40°L (30 minute steep) 8 lbs. Dry Light Extract info 1 oz. Chinook (Pellets, 13.00 %AA) boiled 60 min. info 2 oz...

    leaf necrosis?

I've got the same thing going on my lower leaves. Mine are first year plants and have quite a few flowers ranging from early stage burrs to fully formed whole hops. Rest of the plant looks great w/ new grown every day.

    Thanks for the information guys.

Difference between shoot and low runner

My first year hops are doing really well. The Magnum and Chinook are 12+ feet tall and putting off cones for couple weeks now. Cascades are not so hot but seem to have taken off lately. My question is this. From what I read around here, I want to leave runners and snip new shoots. I've...

    Lights Out IPA

So I began a West Coast Style IPA recipe earlier tonight and about 15 minutes into the boil a storm knocked my power out. Luckily I had a friend across town who still had power and we transported everything over to his place and finished the brew with about 30 minute delay. Thus was born...

How deep to plant my rhizomes?

I planted my rhizomes (1 cascade, 1 magnum, 1 chinook) vertically w/ the little buds facing up and 1.5" to 2" deep. I also have mine in big planters and will bring them indoors when winter rolls around. I had shoots sprouting less than 10 days after planting just FYI.

    Small batch

Unfortunately no. I don't have a food saver. Currently they are in ziploc bags and plastic containers in the freezer. I searched the furum and it seems that opinions vary on storage for crushed grains.

    Small batch

I've got about 2# of crushed grains in my fridge that need to be used as I've heard that they don't keep too long. Anyway I could do a 1.5 gal batch but all I have is 5 gallon carboy and 6.5 gallon ale pail available. Will that be too much head space for a primary? If so, any suggestions on...

What music do you listen to while brewing?

Gov't Mule, Widespread Panic, Great American Taxi, Leftover Salmon, with some traditional Bluegrass spinkled in.
