aging and iipa's don't really go together.
It's in the keg now with a new 2oz dry hop addition. I'm gonna let that sit for 5 days, pull 'em out and carb it up. I'll report back.
Well,
Live & learn. My 10%abv IIPA has been in the bottle for 4 weeks @ 72F. Still flat. Got 80% attenuation out of the American Ale II. I think they're spent. In hindsight, I should have pitched a little fresh yeast.
A couple weeks ago I got a kegging setup. In an effort to save...
Getting ready to bottle this one tonight. What was your OG/FG on this one?
I ended up with 1.093 and it looks like I'm gonna finish around 1.017-15. I threw in a pound of corn sugar to help dry it out a bit. I was surprised that I got 80+% attentuation out of the American Ale II.
Did...
I'm surprised that they would just hand out the actual ingredients to these kits (pre-purchase). I mean, seems like if you go through all the trouble to list/compile hundreds of clone kits you wouldn't just want some guy getting your recipe and buying from it from somewhere else. I know when I...
AHS doesn't put the full list of ingredients on their kits. Here is an example of how they describe the kit:
Fermentable Sugars:
Extract: 7 lbs. Liquid Malt Extract, .5 lbs. Specialty Grains.
Mini Mash: 5 lbs. Liquid Malt Extract, 2.5 lbs. Base Grains, .5 lbs. Specialty Grains.
All Grain...
Yeah, this is my first beer over 1.070. I probably just need to brew another smaller beer now so I can stop worrying about this one.
When you say you saw signs of fermentation for a month...what signs?
So I had a very active primary (see below) pic taken about 18 hours after pitching. I'm coming up on 12 days in the primary and the yeast are starting to fall out and the top 4-5 inches of the beer are looking pretty clear...but there is still a 1 inch head of foam on the beer. I have never...
Another thing to consider....
Just because you haven't reached 1.020...doesn't mean you will ever get there. There are a lot of variables affecting the FG (fermentables in the wort, temperature, aeration at time of pitching, etc.) The bubbling you see could very well just be the co2 that...
Out of curiosity...why did you decide to dry hop in the primary? I'm brewing a very similar beer (by the numbers) and everything I read pointed me towards dry hopping in the secondary.
How long do you plan on leaving it in the secondary?
I plan on racking mine at 2 1/2 - 3 weeks (based on...
